Full Job Description
Position Overview:

The Project Manager will support one or more of BWXT's advanced reactor development programs including BWXT's Advanced Nuclear Reactor (BANR), the Janus Program, mPower development support, and nuclear maritime applications. The Project Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and executing project activities across a technically complex and multi disciplinary environment. This role ensures that program objectives are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with all contractual, regulatory, and organizational requirements. The PM serves as a central point of contact for internal teams, external customers, and stakeholders supporting AT program initiatives.

Location:

On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia at the Advanced Technologies Office.

Your Day to Day as a Project Manager, Advanced Reactor Development:
  • Serve as the primary liaison for project, proposal, and contract activities with internal and external customers.
  • Lead development, coordination, and submission of proposals, ensuring compliance with technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Manage execution of contracts, internal work authorizations, subcontracts, and other formal project documents.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project risk registers and action item tracking logs.
  • Partner with functional groups to establish and maintain project controls, integrated schedules, budgets, performance metrics, and baselines.
  • Track and manage project budgets, expenditures, and earned value against approved plans.
  • Build and maintain project forecasts, including bookings, revenue, cost performance, and gross margin targets.
  • Collaborate closely with technical leads, engineering teams, and supporting organizations to ensure project milestones remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate timely and transparent communication across stakeholders, preparing and delivering technical and commercial briefings as needed.
  • Provide proactive issue resolution, develop alternative strategies, and maintain alignment with evolving program and customer needs.
  • Ensure all project activities adhere to regulatory, security, and quality requirements associated with the project.


Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or physics is required.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years professional experience is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years project management experience is required.
  • Must have experience using Oracle Primavera (P6) schedule management.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both internally and externally.
  • Must have strong skills in analyzing, condensing, and developing technical and commercial project information.
  • Must have proven ability to develop creative technical and commercial approaches to complex project challenges.
  • Must have demonstrable adaptability and resilience in changing project environments.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working within nuclear, radioisotope, or highly regulated technical environments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project schedules, resource loading, cost controls, and project baselines.
  • Experience leading Agile development teams using the Scrum / Kanban process.
  • Previous supervisory or mentorship experience is preferred.
  • PMP certification and/or MBA is preferred.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $180,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $115,000.00 and $180,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
