Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of RoleCorning is seeking a Process Engineer to improve existing manufacturing processes, equipment, and capabilities across multiple facilities. This role supports and leads continuous improvement activities on raw material choices, cost reduction projects, and new process integration -- with direct impact on production quality and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities- Provide engineering-level production support and actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects
- Solve process and material issues in production through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts
- Lead and/or support projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new product introduction
- Develop and maintain systems to monitor equipment and process performance, including trend analysis and implementation plans
- Receive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability while ensuring proper transfer processes are followed
Location, Hours and Travel Requirements- Location: Hickory, NC
- Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week
- Travel: Up to 25% to various manufacturing sites in the division
Experiences/Education - Required- Bachelor's degree in Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Ceramic Engineering
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools -- Microsoft Excel, Access, and Minitab or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to apply scientific method and engineering principles to diagnose and resolve process problems
Experiences/Education - Desired- Master's degree in Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Ceramic Engineering
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
- Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $81,923.00 - $112,645.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
