What you’ll be doingIn this role, you will be supporting the Legal Entity Reporting team in producing CIBC’s Legal Entities Quarterly and Annual Reports, including the compilation and review process for the financial statements and notes. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for preparing certain annual legal entity financial statements and note disclosures, and quarterly financial results packages, coordinating and leading review sessions with key stakeholders including the Director, Statutory Reporting, Controllers and the VP, Statutory and Regulatory Reporting, responding to requests from key stakeholders, including CIBC’s external auditors. You will also act as a second line of defense, reviewing and questioning unusual period-over-period variances or unique data points. In addition, you will provide support to other statutory or regulatory reporting teams, and ad-hoc project support, including changes in accounting and regulatory standards, significant transactions, or other internal reporting changes.

- Communication – You have excellent verbal and written communication skills which allow you to effectively communicate with stakeholders to resolve issues and assist in the completion of the financial results packages for the Board of the respective legal entity.
- Organization & time management – You’re organized and have good time management skills, which ensures that you can manage conflicting priorities to meet tight deadlines and produce high-quality work under pressure. You are able to effectively track open issues and questions as well as outstanding information requirements, and follow-up promptly on these items.
- Attention to detail – You’re committed to getting things right, and you speak up when things don’t make sense or you don’t understand certain information as you review disclosures which are prepared by other team members or stakeholders. You bring the same commitment to the disclosures that you prepare, making sure you make every reasonable effort to ensure that disclosures are complete and accurate and in compliance with the relevant requirement.
- Being proactive – You try to anticipate challenges and you aim to provide a ‘no-surprises’ experience to stakeholders and your manager by keeping the team apprised of issues or late changes that you become aware of.

Who you are

- You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or in your final year to be designated.
- You can demonstrate experience with International Financial Reporting Standards and/or financial reporting, and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It’s an asset if you have knowledge of financial institutions and associated regulatory requirements (i.e. OSFI/OSC/SEC) or audit experience with a public accounting firm.
