Full Job Description
What We're Looking For:
We are seeking a highly motivated Software Test Engineer to join our System Test organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for validating complex enterprise products and solutions through manual and automated testing while leveraging AI-enabled tools and methodologies to improve quality, efficiency, and test coverage. The candidate will collaborate closely with Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Program teams to develop innovative test strategies, automate validation workflows, analyze product quality trends, and accelerate release readiness.

Success in this role requires strong technical problem-solving skills, experience with test automation, data-driven decision making, and the ability to effectively utilize approved AI technologies to enhance productivity, test creation, defect analysis, risk assessment, and overall quality engineering processes. AI-generated outputs must be critically evaluated, validated, and applied in accordance with company policies and responsible AI principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Designs, develops, and executes manual and automated tests for software components and integrated systems, ensuring alignment with project objectives, quality standards, and timelines
• Creates and maintains test plans, test cases, automation scripts, traceability records, and documentation detailing software functionality and validation results
• Participates in requirements, design, code, and test reviews and provides constructive feedback
• Analyzes test results, investigates defects, and conducts root cause analysis to diagnose and resolve complex software and system issues
• Recommends and implements solutions to technical and quality challenges, including improvements to functionality, scalability, performance, reliability, and testability
• Uses approved AI and GenAI tools to support test planning, test case generation, automation development, defect triage, root cause analysis, and identification of test coverage gaps
• Critically evaluates and validates AI-generated artifacts for accuracy, traceability, security, and compliance before use
• Uses quality data and AI-assisted analytics to identify product trends, release risks, and areas requiring additional validation
• Develops and refines effective prompts and repeatable workflows for approved AI-assisted engineering activities
• Collaborates with Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Program teams to improve validation workflows and release readiness
• Proactively identifies opportunities to improve productivity through new tools, automation, AI-enabled methods, and quality engineering practices
• Protects intellectual property, customer data, and confidential information and follows company policies and responsible AI principles
• Demonstrates sound judgment in determining appropriate actions for software development and testing tasks
• Assists less experienced staff with established practices, processes, test methods, and tools
• Builds productive working relationships within the team, across organizational units, and with external customers
• Occasionally interacts with inter-organizational and external stakeholders to address project needs or resolve issues

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 2+ years of software engineering experieence focused on system software testing and test automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of software development and testing life cycles, including Agile or Scrum methodologies
• Must be able to work on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week in office minimum)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience of Programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or similar
• Familiarity with operating systems, algorithms, software development frameworks, version control systems, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience debugging, testing, troubleshooting, and analyzing complex software systems
• Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills
• Familiarity with approved AI-assisted development or testing tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, AI-based test generation tools, or equivalent technologies
• Ability to critically assess and validate AI-generated outputs before implementation
• Understanding of data privacy, security, intellectual property protection, and responsible AI practices
• Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills
• Proactively identifies improvement opportunities and contributes to solutions
• Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when necessary

Pay Range:
$86,080.00 - $129,120.00 Annual

Incentive Compensation:
In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 10% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
