The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Atlanta office and play a key role in its continued growth. You will lead diverse structural projects, mentor engineers, strengthen client relationships, and help expand Bennett & Pless' presence in the market.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading projects and teams while remaining actively involved in structural design. You will work across varied materials and markets, guide project decisions, and lead projects from concept through construction.
What You'll Do
Direct structural design across multiple projects and clients, guiding project teams and drawing on technical specialists for complex issues.
Manage project scope, schedules, staffing, budgets, quality, and client expectations while balancing competing priorities.
Apply broad knowledge of structural materials and design principles to guide design decisions across varied project types.
Lead client and project-team meetings, communicate recommendations clearly, and make sound decisions as the primary structural project contact.
Review drawings, calculations, specifications, technical reports, and BIM deliverables to ensure coordinated, high-quality construction document packages; direct engineers and designers rather than focus on hands-on modeling.
Oversee construction administration, including RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, and site observations, coordinating technical input from the project team.
Lead and mentor engineers and designers, prepare proposals, and collaborate with internal and external teams to support client relationships and successful project delivery.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor, and develop engineers and designers, delegating design work and drawing on technical specialists when needed.
7+ years of progressive structural engineering experience with broad exposure to structural materials and project types.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects for multiple clients, including scheduling, resource allocation, competing priorities, and project deadlines.
Strong client-facing, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to lead meetings, explain recommendations, make sound decisions, and coordinate internal and external project teams.
Broad understanding of structural design principles and materials, with the ability to review drawings and recognize a coordinated, high-quality construction document package.
General familiarity with structural design software and BIM tools, including the ability to review models and support coordination; advanced hands-on modeling expertise is not required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in structural engineering or related advanced coursework.
Experience with manufacturing, data centers, and mission-critical facilities. Specific project-type knowledge can be developed through training.
Familiarity with Revit, ACC/BIM 360, and Bluebeam Studio for model review, drawing review, and coordination. Additional technical and software training can be provided.
Interest in learning and applying AI tools to structural engineering workflows.
Project financial management, proposal writing, business development, or client growth experience. Financial and business development skills can be developed through training.
Benefits & Flexibility
Competitive salary with annual performance-based bonus opportunities
Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
401(k) matching
Paid time off and paid parental leave
