Job Description:

To assist in the hardware electrical design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet requirements. Involved with designs of moderate to high complexity.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Design new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet customer and Railway requirements.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of hardware designs and all related documentation.
  • Prepare specifications for hardware and/or software components or devices.
  • Develop appropriate design architecture.
  • Implement designs using good design practices and applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Review applicable specifications, standards, and rules, ensuring appropriate actions have been taken.
  • Ensure both the safety and quality of hardware products while reducing deployment costs. Contribute to heightened reuse of product hardware and improvements in hardware quality.
  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure changes align with objectives.
  • Generate accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and provide supportable estimates for new developments.
  • Support bids by defining technical solutions and reviewing the materials list.
  • Interpret, identify, and document requirements to meet customer needs within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Assume the role of Work Package Manager as required.
  • Contribute to a harmonious team environment while maintaining professionalism.
  • Mentor and assist junior team members as required.
  • Follow directions and work instructions, exercising good judgment in assigned work.
  • Effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action.
  • Track progress on all assigned tasks, ensuring all work is completed accurately.


Key Requirements:
  • 6+ years of experience in the industry, including:
    • Cabling
    • Grounding techniques
    • Surge protection
  • Strong grasp of Electrical Engineering Principles, including:
    • Power circuits design
    • Electronic circuits with microprocessors
    • Telecommunications circuits
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as:
    • CAD systems (AutoCAD)
    • Multi-meters
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Protocol analyzers
  • Well-developed verbal skills for clear communication without ambiguity.
  • Proven ability to design complex electrical and electronic products.
  • Strong writing skills to prepare clear and concise documents and work packages.
  • Proficient in skills and up-to-date with technology in the discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in the Railway Signaling industry.
  • Experience with design, installation, and testing of communication-based train control on-board equipment.
  • Excellent understanding of train interfaces and operations.
  • Familiarity with train maintenance, train components, sub-systems, and various train designs from different manufacturers.
  • Deep understanding of CENELEC and AREMA railway standards regarding on-board equipment.
  • Experienced in performing train surveys.
  • Certification: PEO.
  • Education: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.


Total Compensation Range (Base Salary + Annual Incentive plan) : $90,750 - $128,185
