Position Summary

Are you passionate about developing innovative supply chain solutions that accelerate business growth, drive operational excellence, and create long-term value for customers? ID Logistics is seeking a Senior Director, Solutions Engineering to lead complex solution design initiatives across North America while serving as a strategic partner to Commercial, Operations, Finance, IT, and Customer Implementation teams. Reporting to senior leadership within Research & Development Department, this role primarily focuses on new business opportunities ensuring solution designs are operationally sound, financially viable, and aligned with customer requirements.

The Director, Solutions Engineering is responsible for owning the design, development, and validation of large-scale distribution, fulfillment, transportation, automation, and network optimization solutions that support new business pursuits, customer expansions, contract renewals, and operational transformations. They will provide leadership across the solution development lifecycle, combining engineering expertise, financial acumen, customer engagement, and team leadership to deliver scalable logistics solutions that align with both customer requirements and business objectives.

The ideal candidate brings extensive distribution center design experience, previous ownership of complex RFQ/RFI processes, advanced engineering and operational modeling capabilities, a proven track record leading high-impact supply chain transformation initiatives, and in-depth experience with customer implementations.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00am - 5pm

Work Travel: Up to 25%, with occasional periods of 50% depending on business needs and subject to change

Competitive Compensation: $124,000-$160,000 plus performance based annual bonus

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Solution Design Leadership
  • Lead the design and development of comprehensive logistics solutions supporting new business opportunities, customer expansions, network redesigns, facility start-ups, contract renewals, automation initiatives, and operational transformations.
  • Design and optimize warehouse layouts, storage strategies, material handling flows, and operational processes for steady-state, ramp-up, and seasonality.
  • Conduct labor modeling, capacity planning, productivity analysis, workflow design, and operational assessments to support customer requirements.
  • Develop innovative supply chain solutions that leverage automation, technology, and best practices to improve productivity and service performance.
  • Perform return on investment (ROI), capital expenditure, and operational cost analyses to support solution recommendations.
  • Ensure all proposed solutions align with operational capabilities, customer expectations, financial objectives, and long-term scalability.
  • Validate operational assumptions, engineering designs, labor requirements, and financial models prior to customer presentation and implementation.
  • Manage and oversee projects completed by other engineers to validate operational design, productivity, customer requirements, and financials.

Commercial & Business Development Support
  • Serve as a strategic engineering partner for commercial and operational team throughout the logistics sales lifecycle.
  • Lead solution design activities associated with Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposal (RFP), and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) opportunities
  • Develop cost models, labor assumptions, throughput projections, and pricing strategies for new business opportunities and renewals.
  • Partner with Commercial and Finance leadership on pricing strategies, business case development, and investment recommendations.
  • Support proposal development, customer presentations, solution reviews, site visits, operational assessments, and executive discussions.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand business objectives, operational challenges, growth forecasts, and service requirements.
  • Validate commercial conditions, presentations, and financials on projects completed by other engineers

Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain engineering standards, methodologies, design tools, templates, and best practices across the solutions engineering function.
  • Lead value engineering initiatives focused on improving productivity, service levels, safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate automation technologies, robotics, material handling equipment, ASRS systems, goods-to-person solutions, and emerging supply chain technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for network optimization, transportation improvements, inventory flow enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Drive data-driven decision making through advanced analytics and operational modeling.
  • Support implementation teams during customer onboarding, facility launches, and major operational transitions.

Team and Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Develop and train a team of solutions engineering professionals with various degrees of experience.
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to solutions engineering team members.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams supporting strategic customer initiatives and business growth objectives.
  • Partner with Operations, Commercial, Finance, IT, Customer Implementation, and Procurement teams to develop integrated supply chain solutions.
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, equipment providers, consultants, and external partners as required.
  • Support the development and standardization of engineering methodologies, tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Actively promote a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

Project Governance & Customer Implementation Support
  • Manage, and oversee multiple concurrent engineering projects with significant operational and financial impact, while meeting deadlines and customer expectations.
  • Monitor project milestones, engineering deliverables, assumptions, risks, business outcomes, and financial impacts.
  • Support implementation and operations teams during customer launches, facility start-ups, and major operational transitions.
  • Present strategic solution recommendations and business cases to leadership and customers.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers, consultants, technology vendors, and external partners to support engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety standards, operational best practices, and customer and quality requirements.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering preferred; suitable candidates may have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in solutions engineering, industrial engineering, logistics engineering, supply chain consulting, warehouse design, operations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing solution design functions, or complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Extensive solution design experience required. Experience, preferably within a third-party logistics (3PL) organization.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale distribution, fulfillment, and supply chain solution development efforts, including labor modeling, process optimization, facility layout development, and financial costing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in labor modeling, warehouse design, process optimization, facility layout development, capacity planning, and operational costing.
  • Significant experience leading complex RFQ, RFI, and RFP responses, including solution development, pricing support, customer presentations, and contract pursuits.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, distribution center designs, transportation networks, inventory strategies, material handling systems, automation, and supply chain technologies.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel, proficiency with AutoCAD, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools. Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) experience is a plus.
  • Exceptional analytical, project management, communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and customer-facing skills.
  • Ability to own and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of financial modeling, ROI analysis, and capital investment evaluation experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, with occasional periods of 50%.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting highly complex operations within e-commerce, omnichannel retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), fashion, healthcare, automotive, industrial, food & beverage, or consumer electronics sectors.
  • Experience leading regional, national, or multi-site solution design organizations Demonstrated experience evaluating and implementing automation technologies, robotics, autonomous systems, and advanced material handling solutions.
  • Experience with network modeling, transportation optimization, facility location analysis, and supply chain strategy initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, PMP, APICS/ASCM, or similar professional certifications preferred.
  • Experience supporting operations exceeding one million square feet, highly automated environments, or large-scale enterprise logistics transformations preferred.
