Full Job Description
Welding Engineering Manager

As the Welding Engineering Manager at C.A. Murren, you are always looking two steps ahead of the weld in front of you, anticipating what the program is going to need before it becomes a problem in the field. You juggle procedures, qualifications, filler-metal control, and turnover all at once without losing sight of the smallest detail on a weld map or a joint sketch. If you're the kind of leader who plans for what's coming while still catching what everyone else misses, this is the role for you!

C.A. Murren is seeking a Welding Engineering Manager to lead the project Welding and Special Processes Program on our project located in Aiken, SC covering piping, structural steel, reinforcing steel, supports, and specialty fabrication. The ideal candidate has led a DOE or commercial nuclear welding program before and is ready to serve as the project's final technical authority on welding decisions, even under schedule pressure. This person directs Welding Engineers, Field Welding Engineers, and the Rod Room Attendant, and owns everything from welding program development and procedure qualification to filler-metal control, NDE/PWHT coordination, and supplier oversight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and continuously improve the project Welding and Special Processes Program, including procedures, qualifications, training, and records
  • Lead and assign Welding Engineers, Field Welding Engineers, and the Rod Room Attendant across work areas and shifts
  • Review contracts, drawings, and specifications to establish welding requirements and resolve code and constructability questions
  • Approve WPSs, PQRs, welder qualifications, weld maps, and other process-control documents before use
  • Direct welder qualification testing, NDE coordination, and electronic weld-status tracking
  • Oversee filler-metal procurement, storage, and rod-room controls
  • Provide field technical support for fit-up, dissimilar-metal welds, repairs, and configuration changes
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor welding programs and support fabrication surveillance
  • Monitor welder performance and NDE trends, and initiate corrective action for adverse trends
  • Serve as C.A. Murren's primary welding technical interface with Operations, Construction, Quality, and the Company

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent directly relevant experience may be considered
  • 10+ years of progressive welding-engineering experience, including 5+ years in DOE or commercial nuclear work and 3+ years leading a welding program
  • Demonstrated authority with ASME Section IX and B31.3, plus working knowledge of ASME Sections II and V and AWS D1.1/D1.4
  • Experience developing and qualifying welding procedures and administering welder qualification, filler-metal, and NDE/PWHT controls
  • Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1 and DOE O 414.1D as applied to welding and nuclear-quality records
  • Strong leadership, technical writing, and issue-resolution skills, with the ability to defend technical requirements under schedule pressure
  • AWS Certified Welding Engineer, Certified Welding Inspector, or Senior Certified Welding Inspector credential (preferred)
  • Experience with machine GTAW/orbital welding and specialty welding/NDE subcontracts (preferred)
  • Experience implementing an electronic welding-management system on a nuclear project (preferred)
  • Experience with safety-related piping, structural, and rebar welding (preferred)

Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Participation in pre-employment and random drug screening program
  • Subject to background screening
