About the Role:
The Video Journalist will create videos for MarketWatch and Barron’s that explain business news, markets, and personal finance topics with clarity, creativity, and personality — from quick turnarounds to longer in depth explainers to documentary-style features. You’ll be a hands-on storyteller who can take an idea from concept to publish: scripting, shooting, and editing your own work with a sharp sense of what performs on YouTube. You will also work with other team members to produce, shoot or edit across other projects as well.
You Will:
- Research, pitch, write and produce original short and long form video stories about business, personal finance, markets, technology, and the economy.
- Conduct interviews and write scripts that explain complex financial ideas in a clear, engaging and relatable way.
- Shoot and edit videos, managing everything from lighting and framing to post-production.
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Video to refine story structure, visuals, and editorial accuracy.
- Adapt content for multiple formats — YouTube explainers, on site clips, and social/vertical video.
- Incorporate graphics and data to help audiences visualize trends and financial concepts.
- Collaborate across teams to optimize reach and engagement.
- Use and report on analytics to understand what drives performance and apply insights to future projects.
- Appear on camera as needed to host videos.
You Have:
- 3-5 years of experience producing, shooting, and editing video and producing journalism in video, audio or print.
- Proven track record of YouTube success.
- Demonstrated experience producing compelling news, explainer, documentary and character driven videos.
- Strong journalistic skills, including but not limited to: story ideation, research, fact-checking, sourcing experts and real people, interviewing subjects and experts, and sifting through and understanding data to produce compelling videos.
- A good understanding of business/finance news and current affairs.
- Ability to produce, shoot and edit both documentary on location videos and in-studio interviews.
- Skilled with multiple camera setups, including but not limited to the Sony FS7, A7S and multiple lighting setups.
- Professional competency editing with Adobe Premiere and using or creating professional graphics utilizing After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Academic coursework in journalism (whether in undergrad or graduate school) is preferred.
- On camera experience is a plus.

Base Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000
