Full Job Description
Description

Laserfiche is looking for a Technical Manager to lead our Solution Engineering team. This is a management role for someone who never stopped being technical. You have written real code, you can still read anyone else's, and you can tell within a few minutes whether a solution is sound or held together with duct tape. You will manage a team of Solutions Engineers, review their designs and their code, and stay hands-on enough that your technical judgment is current rather than remembered. When a project hits a wall the team cannot get around, you are the one who finds the way through.

Our customers are asking more of Laserfiche than ever, and the work has gotten more technical: deeper integrations, more automation, more AI in the build itself. Our Solution Engineering team is growing to meet that, and it needs a leader who can go toe-to-toe with the hardest problem in the portfolio rather than route it to someone else.

One week you are reviewing an integration one of your engineers wrote and catching the retry logic that will fail silently in production. The next you are in a costing review deciding whether a deal is workable, prototyping an approach nobody on the team has tried yet, or on a call with a customer whose deployment broke two days before go-live. Schedules live with your Project Managers. The technical problems that reach you are the ones without an obvious answer.

Location:
  • Hybrid: Three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) in-office in Long Beach, CA
  • Remote work from home on Mondays and Fridays

About the Role - Key Responsibilities:

  • Review your team's work critically; code, configurations, and solution designs. Tell good code from code that merely runs
  • Write code yourself. Prototypes, integrations, scripts, a fix during an escalation. You should be among the strongest technical people on your team, not adjacent to them
  • Know the details, not just the concepts; syntax, idioms, and the failure modes of the languages and platforms your team builds on
  • Treat AI output as a draft and never as an answer. Recognize hallucinated APIs, invented parameters, and logic that reads plausibly but does not hold and catch them before they reach a customer. Hold your team to the same standard
  • Solve the problems that have no documented solution. When the supported path does not exist, find a workaround that is defensible; know what it costs, what it risks, and when it has to be replaced
  • Turn what works into how the team works. When an engineer or a tool finds a better approach, make it standard practice and retire what it replaced

For your projects, you will:
  • Be the lead on 1-2 projects
  • Own the delivery health of your team's portfolio: notice early when a project drifts, and act before it becomes a rescue
  • Review solution designs and costing for active and potential projects, and arbitrate when technical approaches conflict
  • Manage engagements to their Statement of Work: utilization, margin, change orders, and honest scope conversations with customers
  • Stay close enough to the work to bill some of it. Your calendar flexes week to week, and project work you do is billed

For your team, you will:
  • Grow your engineers on evidence; regular one-on-ones, honest feedback, and promotion cases built from the project record including not-yet answers that name what would change them
  • Interview and hire engineers, and own their onboarding and technical ramp
  • Keep engineers allocated to work that fits: matching project staffing to strengths, growth needs, and utilization

About You - Essential Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of technical experience in customer-facing roles, including experience leading engineers, technical consultants, or delivery teams formally
  • 8+ years of hands on coding, recent enough that you would still be productive this week. We care more that you know a language properly, its syntax, its idioms, how it breaks, etc. than which one it is C#/.NET and SQL are where most of our integration work lives; JavaScript, Python, and PowerShell show up constantly
  • Demonstrable code judgment; you can read unfamiliar code, form an opinion on its quality, and defend that opinion. Poor error handling, hidden coupling, and shortcuts that will not survive a version upgrade should jump out at you
  • A track record of solving problems that had no clear answer, including workarounds you designed knowingly and can still explain the tradeoffs of
  • Experience in a billable services or consulting environment; you have lived with utilization, scope, and margin, and you know what they do to decision making
  • 4-year degree or equivalent work experience
  • Up to 25% travel

Bonus points for:
  • Experience with content management, low-code/no-code automation, or the broader ECM space; ideally including the Laserfiche SDK, Workflow, or Forms
  • Hands on experience deploying agentic AI and related technologies such as MCP servers, with the curiosity to keep learning as the space evolves
  • A track record of putting AI and agentic automation to work in real delivery
  • Experience with information security standards or compliance frameworks (e.g., CJIS, FedRAMP/GovRAMP, HIPAA)

The salary range varies, and pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, certifications (if applicable), candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills and years of experience amongst other factors.
  • $125,000 - $170,000 per year

Perks & Benefits at a Glance
  • Generous time off:
    • 15 Days of Vacation
    • 3 Floating Holidays
    • 2 Paid Volunteer Days
    • 9 Paid Holidays
  • Hybrid Work Environment
  • Free Parking: covered and EV charging stations
  • Various 401 (k) Investment Options and Generous Company Match
  • HMO and PPO Medical Care Options

Applicants must be authorized to work for Laserfiche in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employer sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor new employment visas, or take over sponsorship of existing employment visas, at this time.
