System Engineer - Industrial Controls

Position Overview

FCX Performance, an Applied Industrial Technologies Company, is seeking a hands-on, mid-to-senior level System Engineer to deliver industrial and commercial control systems services to local customers. This is a field-heavy engineering role requiring physical site visits, tool utilization, and direct interaction with industrial machinery.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Field Engineering & Support: Provide local industrial/commercial control systems engineering service for customers relating to SCADA Systems, PLC Programming, CAD Drawings, Industrial Networking, and Systems Calibration.
  • Technician Interfacing: Support instrument technicians in the field with issues related to interfacing field devices to DCS & SCADA systems, special needs testing, and technical support.
  • Project & Contract Management: Partner with fellow engineers to resolve project backlogs while maintaining excellent relationships with contract customers.
  • On-Site Upgrades: Identify opportunities for system and hardware upgrades at customer facilities.
  • Documentation & Safety: Report job activity and maintain detailed logs about service calls, parts, and orders. Fully comprehend and communicate safety protocols on active job sites.
  • Travel: Safely operate a company vehicle to travel to and from local job sites daily.

Required Education & Experience
  • Experience:Minimum 5+ years of direct, hands-on industry experience programming PLCs (Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, MOSCAD, etc.) and working with process/flow control systems.
  • HMI Proficiency: 5+ years of experience with computer-based HMI software (Wonderware, VTSCADA, Lookout, etc.).
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering (BSEE/BSEET), or an Associate Degree (ASEE) paired with extensive, verifiable field experience. (Note: Advanced theoretical degrees like an MSEE are not required; this is a practical field engineering role).
  • Driving Record: Must possess a valid US driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be provided for this position


Technical & Mental Requirements
  • Strong background in electrical/electronic engineering, process instrumentation, and process engineering.
  • High energy, technically competent, resourceful, with extreme attention to detail.
  • Programming & CAD: Strong skills in PLCs, Microsoft Visual Basic (or basic programming software) and AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Industrial Networking: Solid understanding of networks, network structures, radio-based communications, and industrial protocols.
  • Controls Mastery: Deep understanding of industrial controls, process controls (including PID Loops and pump control), industrial instrument calibrations, and repairs.
  • Electrical Knowledge: Advanced understanding of analog current loops (4-20mAdc, 1-5Vdc, etc.), their PLC counterparts in numeric counts, and strict adherence to the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Tool Proficiency: Competency with required physical equipment, including hand tools, volt-ohm meters, power tools, and instrument loops.
  • Growth Mindset: While 5+ years of core experience is required, you will receive ongoing On-the-Job Training (OJT) for company-specific workflows. A willingness to learn daily and teach others is required.
  • Autonomy: Must be highly self-motivated, self-driven, and able to manage daily schedules.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Physical Strength: Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Mobility: Must be able to stand, kneel, walk for long periods, and climb ladders or stairs.
  • Availability: Available for occasional emergency call-ins and overnight travel to various customer sites based on business needs.
  • Environment: Duties are performed indoors and outdoors with direct exposure to weather elements, heavy equipment, earth excavation, power tools, clean rooms, dirt, and noise.
  • National Travel: Ability to travel nationally when required (infrequent).
