Full Job Description
Job Description

This role is in the HVDC datacenter product line where we are working on designing the chips needed for the next generation of AI datacenter power supplies. This is a high visibility and high growth product area. The product line develops both the primary side 400V GaN power stages as well as the secondary low-voltage synchronous rectifiers for 800V to low-voltage LLC converters.

You will own system-level definition and application support for GaN power FETs and SR FETs targeting datacenter power conversion. This is a technical
individual contributor role with direct customer engagement - you sit between GaN/Si design and the hyperscaler/ODM engineers who deploy our devices in production
hardware.

At TI, System Engineers work to identify ideal roadmap opportunities for a business and are responsible for defining new products and platforms based on market opportunity. To do this, they leverage strong technical knowledge of our existing portfolio, deep understanding of the technologies, standards and protocols within an industry or end equipment, and an ability to engage with customers and translate their requirements into technical specifications that will solve their problems. Systems engineers also partner closely with marketing and applications engineers, as well as design teams, to ensure our roadmap is both meeting customer and market requirements and is technically optimized and manufacturable at a price and cost point that makes sense for the business.
  • Characterize and benchmark GaN FETs and SRFETs against competitive solutions; translate measurements into application-relevant figures of merit
  • Develop simulation (SPICE, SIMPLIS, PLECs) and analytical models; collaborate with device designers to align simulation with silicon behavior
  • Author application notes, reference designs, and performance reports for customer design-in decisions
  • Provide direct technical support to tier-1 datacenter OEMs, ODMs, and power supply manufacturers during design-in and qualification
  • Identify gaps in device performance or portfolio coverage; write requirements for next-generation products
  • Work with TI organizations, (ATD, Packaging, PDS/SEM, Kilby) to bring in the the newest technology that enables our devices
  • Build and validate evaluation platforms for LLC, phase-shifted full bridge, and multi-phase synchronous buck converters at representative power levels (1-20 kW)
  • Define device requirements by working backward from datacenter PSU and voltage regulator topologies

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, ECE or related engineering degree
  • 4 + years of relevant Systems engineering experience with power conversion

Preferred qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of GaN FET physics and switching behavior - dead time optimization, third quadrant conduction, hard-switching vs. soft-switching gate drive requirements
  • Proficiency with power conversion topologies used in datacenter: LLC resonant, totem-pole PFC, HV buck, Hybrid switch cap
  • Familiarity with lab equipment and lab skills: double-pulse testing, Coss measurement, Kelvin Rdson measurement
  • Experience with simulation tools (PSPICE, PLECS, SIMPLIS)
  • Strong ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Familiarity with current Datacenter power delivery trends, OCP, Open Rack, 48V datacenter power architecture, and 800V 12 6V, 12V, 54V shift
  • Experience with synchronous rectifier controller ICs and gate drive timing
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders critical to success, both internally and externally
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly ramp on new systems and processes
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
