Opportunity Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for providing expertise and leadership to the service and maintenance staff while ensuring the safe maintenance, repair, or replacement of Smurfit WestRock's plant assets. The Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for driving continuous improvement of plant operations to enable efficient, high-quality production of customer products.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Provide strategic leadership for maintenance operations to maximize equipment reliability, plant uptime, and production performance while supporting overall business objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve short- and long-term maintenance strategies, reliability programs, and preventive maintenance initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and asset performance.
  • Lead, coach, and direct maintenance craftsmen in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance activities, ensuring timely resolution of equipment issues and minimizing production downtime.
  • Establish, communicate, and enforce maintenance department safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance standards, promoting a culture of safety and accountability throughout all maintenance operations.
  • Plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate maintenance work to ensure adherence to industry best practices, preferred maintenance procedures, and the effective use of current technologies and equipment.
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate key maintenance performance indicators (KPIs), including safety, reliability, equipment uptime, environmental performance, and cost effectiveness, to identify improvement opportunities and drive operational excellence.
  • Manage maintenance inventory and storeroom operations, including oversight and approval of parts and material purchases, to maintain required stock levels and control spending within budget targets.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, productivity, cost reduction, and maintenance effectiveness, utilizing data-driven decision making and industry best practices.
  • Foster employee development through leadership, coaching, training, performance management, and work allocation, ensuring maintenance personnel have the skills and resources needed to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Drive a high-performance maintenance culture focused on exceeding safety, reliability, and operational standards while supporting the achievement of plant and company objectives.


What you need to succeed:

  • 2-year technical degree in a Maintenance related discipline or related work experience
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Working knowledge of maintenance techniques and equipment (i.e. pumps, valves, motors, gear boxes)
  • Safety mindset with thorough understanding of safety policies and procedures
  • Initiative to problem solve and take independent action
  • Great communication with the ability to adjust communication style and interact across all levels of the organization
  • Able to exhibit a 'can-do' approach and inspire others to excel
  • Must be organized with great time management to manage multiple priorities


The salary range for this position is $76,875.00 - $128,125.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The range listed is also the expected pay for roles in Illinois and Colorado. The benefits for this role include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change.
