Role SummaryAs a test-focused Platform Integration Engineer on the Connectivity and Infotainment software team at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies, you will own the end-to-end BSP test and release lifecycle that brings vehicle compute and Infotainment/Connectivity ECU software up to production quality. You will collaborate closely with software developers, systems integrators, hardware engineers, and quality assurance teams to build, automate, and execute comprehensive test suites for every hardware revision and board support package release.
You will lead complex platform integrations and system-level debugging, owning cross-team technical decisions, automated test frameworks, and launch release gates. You will provide technical management, code and test plan reviews, and mentorship to senior and junior integration and automation engineers, while supporting time-critical test events, preproduction vehicle drives, and root-cause investigations.
Responsibilities- Set and review technical direction for BSP integration, automated test execution, and HIL testing across platforms, and resolve design and validation trade-offs with partner teams.
- Lead design reviews and define test plans, entry and exit criteria, and launch gates with development, QA, and validation leads, including Yocto-based CI test images and release validation pipelines.
- Review nightly regression, BSP, and HIL results (pytest, LAVA, Labgrid, Jenkins), identify systemic or flaky failures, and drive root-cause analysis.
- Lead complex hardware bring-up and smoke/validation testing for new hardware revisions, and set debugging standards for the team.
- Define testable interface contracts for the hardware abstraction layer (HAL) that application and middleware teams consume.
- Represent integration and test coverage readiness in roadmap, risk, and escalation reviews with leadership and program management.
- Mentor senior and junior integration and test engineers through reviews of their code, test scripts, and test strategies.
- Use AI tools responsibly to speed up test case generation, test plan design, log parsing, and failure triage.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- A degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, or information systems, or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of professional embedded software experience, including BSP, bootloader, or kernel work, with leadership in test automation and verification on production hardware.
- 6+ years of hands-on Linux kernel and driver development, including device tree configuration and automated testing on Linux.
- Strong C programming and debugging skills, plus advanced Python and shell scripting for test frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and log parsing.
- Experience leading automated test infrastructure (pytest, LAVA, Labgrid, Jenkins-driven HIL rigs) across multiple platforms, with deep knowledge of the software test life cycle.
- Experience owning Yocto Project or equivalent build system architecture.
- Track record of leading cross-team platform integration and end-to-end testing from requirements through production release sign-off.
- Expertise in root-cause analysis for wireless, connectivity, and boot issues, including performance, stability, and interoperability testing.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence decisions across teams without direct authority.
- Flexibility to travel for on-site test bench setup, vehicle drives, and time-critical testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of automotive protocols and their test methods (CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, PCIe, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).
- Ability to analyze telemetry, logcat, and diagnostic data to correlate failures and uncover systemic defects.
- Experience with wireless (Wi-Fi, 5G, LTE, GPS, Bluetooth) performance, coexistence, and interoperability testing.
- Diagnostic testing experience on infotainment platforms (OBD-II, UDS, SOVD, fault logging, DTCs).
- Understanding of end-to-end data routing, telematics, and validation of cloud-connected and mobile-app features.
- Experience setting multi-year test automation roadmaps or BSP verification strategies for automotive programs.
- Experience with fault injection, fuzzing, or coverage-guided testing of kernel and driver code.
- Experience with HIL benches and automated test equipment for automotive ECUs (dSPACE, NI, Vector).
- Experience with Android or Android Automotive OS, or with Automotive Grade Linux test suites such as VTS and CTS.
- Experience with secure boot, firmware update validation, and security test methods.
- Upstream contributions to the Linux kernel, U-Boot, or Yocto projects.
- Experience with Agile delivery, CI/CD automated gates, and test-driven development.
