Full Job Description
Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electromechanical Systems
Position Summary: The Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electromechanical Systems, will focus on maintaining and improving existing electromechanical products to ensure consistent quality, performance, and on-time delivery. They will troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in a short time frame, implement design enhancements, and coordinate changes with Quality Assurance, Operations, and Research & Development teams. The Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electromechanical Systems, will conduct root cause analysis, lead value engineering initiatives, and optimize manufacturing processes for efficiency. They will manage and document engineering changes using CAD software and PLM systems, ensuring compliance with customer and engineering standards. As a senior team member, they will mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineers, fostering their development and improving their knowledge of electromechanical platforms.
FLSA: Exempt
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in existing electromechanical systems, spanning mechanical components, PCBAs, and system-level interactions in production and field environments.
Implement engineering changes to both mechanical and electrical designs (CAD models, drawings, PCBAs), ensuring compatibility with existing product architecture and manufacturing processes.
Perform root cause analysis on failures using structured methodologies, addressing issues related to mechanical fit, tolerance stack-ups, electrical performance, and system integration.
Manage engineering changes through PLM systems (e.g., Agile PLM), maintaining accurate documentation, revision control, and traceability.
Analyze test data, field returns, and production failures to identify trends and drive corrective actions across both mechanical and electrical domains.
Develop and execute validation testing to confirm effectiveness of design changes, including functional, durability, and environmental testing of integrated systems.
Support manufacturing and contract suppliers by resolving production issues related to assembly, wiring, PCBAs, and mechanical interfaces, ensuring minimal disruption to output.
Incorporate DFM/DFT feedback from vendors to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product reliability across electromechanical assemblies.
Evaluate and optimize tolerance stack-ups and mechanical interfaces to ensure proper fit, alignment, and long-term durability of assemblies.
Perform circuit-level analysis and simulation where needed to support electrical troubleshooting and design updates.
Lead disposition of non-conforming materials, defining rework or corrective actions that consider both mechanical and electrical impacts.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, cost reduction, and production yield across complete systems, not just individual components.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across both mechanical and electrical problem-solving.
Lead PPI (Product and Process improvement) efforts.
Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities, including requests for maintenance when needed for both personal space and multi-use department spaces.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

About SIG Sauer
SIG Sauer [?s i? ?e? ?za???] is the brand name used by several sister companies involved in the design and manufacture of firearms. The original company was Schweizerische Waggon Fabrik, later Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft but it then went through several selloffs and the SIG Sauer brand is now spread over several companies. The original SIG is now known as SIG Combibloc Group and no longer has any firearms business.
The parent company is L&O Holding. It is the parent company of the German SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. KG, the Swiss SIG Sauer AG, and the American SIG Sauer, Inc.
