Position OverviewWe are hiring a Senior Scientist I, Analytical Development & Solutions. The Senior Scientist I, Analytical Development & Solutions independently develops advanced analytical methods and leads complex R&D projects involving mass spectrometry, proteomics, biologics characterization, bioprocessing, and laboratory automation. This role manages projects from concept through completion, performs complex data analysis and troubleshooting, drives process improvements, provides cross-functional technical support, and may supervise up to two research scientists. The position requires strong scientific judgment, communication skills, and substantial relevant experience supported by a degree in science, engineering, or a related field.
Job DescriptionResponsibilities:- Mass Spectrometry & Proteomics Expertise: Required proficiency in high-resolution mass spectrometry (Orbitrap, QTOF, LC-MS/MS) for peptide mapping, proteomics, post-translational modifications (PTMs), and small molecule structural characterization.
- Biologics Characterization: Highly preferred experience with monoclonal antibody analysis (intact, subunits, glycan profiling) and the evaluation of spent media.
- Analytical & Solid-State Instrumentation: Extensive experience operating standard analytical instruments (HPLC/UPLC, ICP-MS, UV-Vis) alongside solid-state techniques (FT-IR/Raman, XRF, SEM).
- Data Software & Automation: Preferred knowledge of MS data software (Protein Metrics), bioinformatics/statistical programming (Python, R), automation platforms, and upstream/downstream bioprocessing.
- Expert in commonly used experimental/research concepts, practices, and procedures with advanced working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment (scales, pH meters, etc.)
- Independently lead projects from conception to conclusion managing budgets, timelines, cross-functional communication - while providing high-level mentorship to team members. Responsible for supervising lead project staff by overseeing experimental design, data analysis, and oral presentations.
- Perform advanced data analysis from complex data sets, use of statistical software and generate summary data reports & presentations independently.
- Able to interpret scientific literature, apply knowledge to projects (e.g. experimental design information, concentration ranges, etc.), use information to develop new and novel ideas/concepts/product development
- Expert critical thinking skills. Has an intuitive grasp of complex data and moves straight to the solution.
- Able to troubleshoot equipment and experimental problems independently and implement process/workflow improvements, product development and introduction of new testing methods/assays.
Required Skills/Education: - B.S. in a science, bioscience, engineering or bioengineering field with >10 years of relevant work experience or M.S. with >8 years or Ph.D. with >2 years of relevant working experience
- Minimum five years of relevant experience, with emphasis in Bioprocessing, Chemistry, and Biochemistry

Salary and Benefits:- For California, the base salary range for this position is $106,185.25 - $113,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience, location, etc.).
