What You'll Do

In this role, you will own and advance the product roadmap for Avalara Exemption Certificate Management (ECM), our next-generation platform that automates the creation, collection, validation, and renewal of tax exemption documents for thousands of businesses across the U.S. and beyond. You will work at the intersection of customer compliance needs and cutting-edge AI capabilities. You'll benefit from deep integration across Avalara's full compliance ecosystem, giving your roadmap decisions outsized reach and impact.

This role reports to Dave Williams and is hybrid-Durham. Remote will be considered for the right candidate.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

Day to day, you will define requirements, prioritize the ECM backlog, and partner with engineering to ship features that help customers reduce audit risk and manage exemption certificates at scale. You will regularly engage with customers, sales, and our Managed Services team to surface compliance gaps and translate them into actionable product improvements, including AI-powered validation workflows and campaign management tools. You will use Jira and Confluence to manage your roadmap and communicate progress, and collaborate with Product Marketing to support go-to-market launches across ECM's Essentials, Pro, and Premium tiers.

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • Demonstrated experience as a Product Manager shipping SaaS or B2B software products end-to-end, from discovery through launch.
  • Ability to independently define a product roadmap, prioritize a backlog, and communicate trade-offs to engineering and executive stakeholders without heavy guidance.
  • Experience translating complex customer or regulatory requirements into clear, actionable product specs and user stories.
  • Track record of working cross-functionally with engineering, sales, marketing, and customer success to deliver and position product changes.
  • Comfort presenting product strategy and results to senior leadership and external customers.
  • Experience with compliance, document management, tax technology, or another regulated SaaS domain is a strong advantage.
