Full Job Description
Position Summary
The Senior Medical Writer develops clear, scientifically accurate, and compelling content for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device clients. This role requires expertise across therapeutic areas, strategic communications support, and a commitment to excellence, accuracy, and compliance. The Senior Medical Writer partners with clients, participates in scientific and publication planning, and contributes to broader team and organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Content Development
  • Research, write, edit, reference, and annotate scientific and medical materials, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress materials, slide presentations, advisory board materials, newsletters, eLearning modules, digital content, medical/commercial communications, and materials for lay audiences.
  • Conduct literature reviews, analyze data, and prepare materials for MLR review and defense.
  • Ensure scientific accuracy, readability, stylistic consistency, and alignment with AMA style, journal/congress requirements, client standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to scientific narratives, communication platforms, and strategic content initiatives.
  • Manage content development from initiation through delivery, ensuring high-quality, timely outputs and proper version control.

Client Engagement & Strategic Support
  • Serve as the scientific lead in client meetings, advisory boards, workshops, and planning discussions.
  • Provide scientific expertise and strategic recommendations that support client and brand objectives.
  • Support business development through scientific insights and pitch materials.

Scientific Communications & Publication Planning
  • Participate in publication planning and scientific communications activities.
  • Recommend authors, journals, and congresses using evidence-based rationale.
  • Apply knowledge of publication planning processes, timelines, and best practices.

Leadership, Mentorship & Collaboration
  • Mentor junior writers through editorial review, feedback, and guidance on department SOPs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure scientific accuracy and alignment across deliverables.

Qualifications

Education
  • Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field preferred (e.g., MSc, PhD, PharmD, MD).
  • Relevant bachelor's or master's degree with extensive experience may be considered.

Experience
  • Approximately 2+ years of medical writing experience in a medical communications agency or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Experience working with clinicians, medical experts, KOLs, and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Skills & Expertise
  • Exceptional writing, editing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research, drug development, data interpretation, and regulatory considerations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, graphing/figure-generation tools, and virtual meeting platforms.
