Our team automates infrastructure delivery through Storefront, a platform written in Java. A requirement may involve changing the Java services and API integrations driving the automation, the Terraform code defining the infrastructure, or both. We need someone comfortable working across that stack.
Terraform development and cloud automation are the strongest priorities. We can be slightly flexible on Java depth because we have Java specialists on the team and use AI development tools. However, the person still needs to read and troubleshoot existing code, understand API interactions, review changes and verify them through testing.
Please prioritize candidates whose resumes demonstrate:
Terraform development: Authoring reusable modules, understanding state and providers, and troubleshooting provisioning failures.
GCP: Practical infrastructure, IAM and service-account knowledge relevant to building automation.
GitLab CI/CD: Building and troubleshooting automated build, test and delivery pipelines.
Java and APIs: Investigating existing provisioning services and making focused changes with team support.
Splunk: Searching logs, tracing provisioning requests and investigating service failures.
Azure: Baseline working knowledge to support existing automation.
Testing: Validating changes across services, API integrations and infrastructure code.
Full JD
We're still looking for a hands-on software engineer to join the IaC - Terraform team. Please pass along CVs that align with the profile below, and I'll conduct the initial screening and assess technical suitability.
The role combines Java software development, Terraform/HCL development, and GitLab CI/CD. The engineer will build and support services that automate infrastructure provisioning, taking changes through implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and controlled release.
Core technical requirements
Java backend development: Experience writing Java services, REST APIs, and integrations. Relevant technologies include Spring Boot, Jakarta/JAX-RS, microservices, Maven, dependency injection, and concurrency.
Terraform/HCL development: Experience authoring reusable modules, variables, outputs, expressions, validation, resource dependencies, lifecycle rules, and provider configurations. Understanding of Terraform state, drift, imports, and resource replacement is important.
GitLab CI/CD: Experience developing and troubleshooting pipelines covering builds, automated tests, quality checks, security scanning, artifacts, and releases. Relevant terms include GitLab pipelines, YAML, reusable templates, runners, and merge requests.
We're particularly interested in candidates whose CVs demonstrate that they have personally developed Java services and Terraform modules, alongside their deployment and operational experience.
Cloud experience
GCP experience is strongly preferred for our current platform uplift. Relevant areas include IAM, service accounts, impersonation, Compute Engine, networking, and storage.
Baseline Azure knowledge is required to support existing integrations. This includes subscriptions, resource groups, virtual networks, virtual machines, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, service principals, and RBAC.
AWS experience is beneficial for potential future expansion, tentatively planned for 2027.
Other important capabilities
API integration: REST, HTTP, JSON/YAML, data validation, and maintaining compatibility with existing systems.
Distributed systems and reliable workflows: Retries, timeouts, idempotency, asynchronous processing, concurrency, and recovery from partial failures.
Testing: Unit, integration, and regression testing, including failure scenarios.
Troubleshooting: Root-cause analysis across application logs, cloud APIs, Terraform runs, credentials, and provisioning workflows.
Security and networking fundamentals: IAM, least privilege, secrets management, certificates, authentication, DNS, subnets, routing, and connectivity.
Linux and scripting: Working knowledge of Linux/Unix and Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
Strongly preferred experience
Terraform Enterprise, HCP Terraform, or Terraform Cloud, particularly API-driven workspace and run management.
Maintaining established codebases, preserving existing behavior, and delivering focused, tested changes.
Java upgrades, Maven dependency management, library compatibility, and vulnerability remediation.
Code reviews, technical documentation, and collaboration with platform, security, operations, and release teams.
Useful additional experience
Temporal or similar workflow orchestration tools; Kafka or other messaging platforms; Docker and container fundamentals; JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, and SonarQube; Jira, ServiceNow, and change-control/RFC processes. Go/Golang or custom Terraform provider development would also be useful.
Java, Terraform/HCL, and GitLab CI/CD are the main priorities.
The additional technologies should help identify relevant experience, but candidates do not need to have used every tool listed.
