Job Summary
Responsible for underwriting and managing a profitable portfolio of new and renewal inland marine business, with a focus on sustainable growth and longterm retention. This role involves developing and maintaining strong broker relationships, establishing appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing, and ensuring accurate and timely issuance and servicing of highquality policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite inland marine risks through detailed analysis of submissions, including loss history, financial strength, and inspection reports.
- Structure appropriate coverage terms, conditions, limits, deductibles, and pricing in alignment with risk characteristics, underwriting guidelines, and modeled loss potential.
- Actively manage broker and client relationships to drive profitable growth, retention, and crossselling opportunities.
- Ensure the accurate issuance and ongoing management of policies and endorsements in compliance with service standards, technical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor portfolio performance by tracking exposure limits, premium income, and overall financial results, while maintaining awareness of claims activity and providing underwriting input on claim resolution.
- Support business planning, forecasting, and underwriting governance initiatives.
- Contribute to underwriting governance through peer review, referral support, and the technical training and development of less experienced underwriters.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of inland marine underwriting experience
- Strong knowledge of inland marine forms, terms, and conditions
- Proven producer and broker management skills with a focus on profitability
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Bachelors degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to manage competing priorities effectively

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
For NYC/LA: $95,900 - $148,900/year
For Chicago: $86,300 - $134,000/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
