Role summary: Join our Global Tax Department as a Senior Tax Associate, where you will play a pivotal role in automating and preparing the Company's U.S. tax compliances, business licenses, property tax returns, tax controversies and more. This hybrid position is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and will report to the Director of Tax.
Team summary: The Global Tax team is responsible for managing the company's tax compliance, provision preparation, and tax research, ensuring that the company adheres to all federal, state, and international tax regulations while optimizing tax strategies.
Essential Job Responsibilities:- Assist the Tax Manager/Director of Tax in identifying tax implications of research and planning projects to minimize the Company's tax liabilities.
- Maintain the tax calendar, reconcile tax accounts, and respond to government notices.
- Support IRS and state tax controversies by responding to related tax correspondence and information requests.
- Ensure processes and procedures comply with SOX regulations.
- Assist with special projects related to Meals & Entertainment, R&D, sales sourcing, parking & transportation, and transfer pricing.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to support planning and compliance efforts.
- Balance AI-assisted efficiency with professional judgment to ensure outputs remain accurate, compliant, and aligned with SOX and tax policy requirements.
Additional Job Responsibilities:- Collaborate with team members on process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Prepare formal responses to correspondence from government authorities.
- Assemble data in preparation for statutory audits.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company.
- Assist in the development of tax policies and procedures.
- Provide support for ad-hoc projects as needed.
Expected Education & Experience:- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
- 3 - 4 years of corporate accounting or tax experience in a public accounting firm and/or large corporation.
- Federal and state compliance experience preferred.
- Strong technological skills, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
Expected Compensation$70,000 - $120,000
The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.
