Job SummaryThe Senior Platform Engineer leads the design, development, and evolution of platform services, automation solutions, and cloud-native engineering capabilities that improve software delivery, reliability, scalability, security, and developer productivity. This role drives the creation of reusable platform products, shared services, self-service capabilities, and intelligent automation solutions while establishing engineering standards and best practices. Collaborating across engineering, product, architecture, security, and operations teams, the Senior Platform Engineer enables scalable platform adoption and advances organizational platform maturity across the AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AIDLC).
This role specializes in software engineering within Platform Engineering, focusing on architecting and delivering foundational shared services, enterprise libraries, client SDKs, and developer-facing AI capabilities. Rather than managing cloud infrastructure or operations, this engineer treats internal software engineers as customers: building robust, reusable software products, high-throughput APIs, and agentic AI integrations that eliminate boilerplate, standardize best practices, and accelerate engineering teams across the enterprise.
Essential Job Functions- Define strategic direction for platform engineering capabilities. Lead architecture and design of enterprise platforms and shared services. Establish standards, reference architectures, and reusable patterns. Drive cloud-native modernization and oversee APIs, SDKs, frameworks, and self-service capabilities, aligning platform investments with business goals and productivity. - (20%)
- Define enterprise automation strategies for the AI-driven development lifecycle. Lead intelligent automation platforms, AI-powered capabilities, and autonomous workflows. Establish standards and governance for automation-first practices. Drive adoption of AI agents across teams and partner with leaders to scale orchestration, automation, and AI technologies enterprise-wide. - (15%)
- Define strategies for platform reliability, resilience, scalability, and performance. Lead CI/CD, observability, and operational intelligence capabilities. Establish IaC, deployment automation, and cloud operations standards. Drive monitoring, automated remediation, and intelligent workflows. Use metrics to improve delivery and guide teams toward greater reliability and operational maturity. - (15%)
- Define platform-wide governance, security, compliance, and risk strategies. Establish enterprise guardrails, policy frameworks, and secure-by-design principles. Drive automated compliance and security capabilities with security, risk, architecture, and compliance partners. Enable engineering agility through scalable governance, platform controls, and policy automation. - (15%)
- Provide technical leadership across platform engineering initiatives. Influence roadmaps, platform investments, and technology adoption. Lead cross-functional work across engineering, architecture, security, product, and operations. Mentor engineers and develop technical leaders. Drive knowledge sharing, innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. - (15%)
- Define and drive the developer experience vision across engineering platforms. Lead self-service ecosystems that improve speed and autonomy. Establish standards for onboarding, development, testing, deployment, and support. Sponsor reusable accelerators, templates, and platform capabilities. Drive adoption through enablement and feedback, championing a developer-first culture. - (10%)
- Define the vision for AI-enabled engineering platforms and agent ecosystems. Lead adoption of LLMs, agent orchestration, MCP, RAG, and emerging AI technologies. Establish standards for scalable AI-powered solutions and provide strategic recommendations. Guide intelligent developer experiences and autonomous engineering capabilities while advancing AI-native practices. - (10%)
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 1 cloud certification - AWS cloud practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals or Google Cloud- Cloud Digital Leader
- 5-8 years of experience in platform engineering, software engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps, automation engineering, or related disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in Golang Development.
- Familiar with AWS and microservices.
- Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- Relevant industry certifications in cloud platforms, DevOps, platform engineering, software development, automation, AI/ML, data engineering, or related technologies are preferred.

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below): $125,400.00 - $200,600.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.
Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time ("PSST") upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
