What we need

We are looking for an Advanced Mechanical Engineer to join our Cell Engineering team. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for working on the creation, modification and improvements of robotic equipment used in warehouse automation in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. You will work as a member of the team in the conceptualization, design, analysis, fabrication and testing of Symbotic's automated material handling equipment.

What we do

The Cell Engineering team is responsible for developing the robotic work cells and automation equipment that enable us to palletize, depalletize, and manipulate products and cases. The team develops equipment in-house but also works with 3rd party suppliers and design partners to specify complete material handling solutions.

What you'll do
  • Create and design components of electromechanical machinery and systems.
  • Provide technical support for the production and implementation of projects.
  • Prepare and review drawings and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Develop and modify tools and equipment devices used in robotic cells and automation equipment.
  • Visit customers to retrieve data.
  • Search for products and components, contact suppliers.
  • Perform validation of critical mechanical components.
  • Aid in the commissioning of equipment and participate in fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Participate in the elaboration of installation, maintenance and operations manuals.
  • Guide colleagues in their designing of parts, mechanisms, weldments and industrial structures.
  • Elaborate and document test procedures for prototype validation.
  • Assist teammates with documentation and Product Lifecycle Management tasks as needed.
  • Ensure a homogenous understanding of design intent across disciplines (electrical, controls, robotics, and vision).
  • Aid in coaching and developing less experienced team members.


What you'll need
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering discipline or any other equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a hands-on mechanical engineering or design role.
  • Pertinent experience in the robotics industry or other relevant field.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks. AutoCAD, other CAD software and FEA is a plus.
  • PLM experience a plus.
  • Experience in design and drafting standards.
  • Understanding of fabrication processes (turning, milling, welding, etc.).
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Work, Outlook).
  • Autonomy and ability to manage priorities.
  • Ability to resolve and analyze problems.
  • Team player skills, with discipline and concerned for quality.
  • Flexibility to work under pressure and in an environment where priorities change.


Our environment
  • Up to 20% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $101,000.00 - $138,600.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
