Full Job Description
Senior Mechanical Engineer - Product Lifecycle / Sustaining Engineering (PLE)

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer focused on Product Lifecycle Engineering, you will work independently and with cross-functional teams to sustain and improve existing mechanical products, resolve field and manufacturing issues, support new product introductions and cost-reduction efforts. You will partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, Suppliers and Test, to ensure products remain reliable, compliant, manufacturable, and cost-effective throughout their lifecycle.

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

At Allegion, we are driven by a bold vision: redefining safety while empowering our employees to thrive. When you join our team, you become part of a culture that values innovation, purpose, and excellence. This role offers the benefits of our dynamic hybrid work model-combining in-person collaboration for meaningful moments with the flexibility of remote work. Since hybrid arrangements can vary based on the needs of the individual, team and business, your talent acquisition partner will provide specific hybrid details about this role.

We are committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance and building meaningful connections, ensuring you have the tools, resources, and support needed to excel in any environment. Together, we'll unlock your potential and create a lasting impact.

While this is the current structure and we currently have no plans to change, we reserve the right to make changes to the hybrid schedule as needed at the Company's discretion.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead technical sustaining activities: investigate customer complaints, warranty and field issues, and manufacturing escalations; drive root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Manage engineering changes: initiate and execute ECNs in PLM (Windchill preferred), update BOMs/drawings/specs, coordinate reviews and approvals, and monitor ECN FPY to minimize rework and production disruption.
  • Maintain product data integrity in PLM and issue-tracking systems (DevOps, Jira or equivalent); ensure documentation reflects current design and certification status.
  • Support compliance and testing: partner with Quality and Test teams on ORT/qualifications, maintain certification evidence (BHMA, UL, ANSI or applicable standards), and support audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Suppliers: support PPAP and supplier corrective actions, resolve line issues, enable assembly/process improvements and automation, and qualify alternate components during shortages.
  • Support NPD transitions: provide sustaining engineering input and lessons learned during design reviews, prototype evaluation, and handoff to production to ensure manufacturability and compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship as appropriate; may lead cross-functional investigations, supplier reviews, and be a point of contact for sustaining topics.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with at least several years in sustaining/product lifecycle engineering, manufacturing support, or related roles.
  • Proven hands-on troubleshooting and RCA skills with documented examples of resolved field or production issues.
  • Strong experience with PLM/ECN processes (Windchill preferred) and issue tracking systems (DevOps, Jira or similar).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent) and mechanical drawing standards/GD&T.
  • Familiarity with quality and manufacturing tools/processes: FMEA/DFMEA, PPAP, DFx/DFM/DFA, tolerance stack analysis, and supplier quality processes.
  • Experience with industry standards and certification processes (BHMA, UL, ANSI or equivalent) or demonstrated ability to support regulatory compliance.
  • Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Proficient with analysis tools (FEA a plus) and comfortable working with Test/Quality data to drive decisions.

Other
  • Travel: 15% (site visits, supplier support)
