The Role

Scotiabank's Enterprise Architecture organization is seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect to lead the next evolution of enterprise architecture practice across the Bank. This role will work closely with a Principal Architect (Director) as a single contributor and additionally will be responsible for transforming EA practice into a modern, scalable, self-service, pattern-based, automation-enabled governance model. The Architect will play a key role in defining the future-state model, aligning senior stakeholders, and leading the practical implementation of reusable patterns, automated controls, evidence capture, and reporting capabilities.

Architecture Oversight:
  • Partner with key architecture stakeholders to define clear guidance, processes, and expectations for architecture engagement, review, compliance, and exception management.

  • Work closely with domain architects to build architecture guardrails and outline the minimum architecture standards and validation points across the architecture domain control groups.

  • Partner with Domain Architects to define and govern reference architectures that describe target-state capabilities, reusable designs, and approved solution direction.

  • Establish and operationalize governance processes to ensure reference architectures remain current, adopted, measurable, and aligned with strategic technology direction.

  • Maintain, and evolve enterprise architecture governance frameworks aligned to best practices and organizational objectives

Architecture Leadership:
  • Lead and mature architecture governance practices that support consistent, transparent, and risk-informed technology decision-making across the Bank.

  • Provide governance leadership across enterprise architecture policies, standards, principles, reference architectures, patterns, and exemption processes to ensure alignment with the Bank's architecture framework.

  • Partner with Chief Architects, Domain Architects, Solution Architects, control partners, and delivery teams to embed architecture governance expectations into delivery lifecycles and portfolio roadmaps.

  • Share knowledge and collaborate with others within the team and with other teams across the Bank to ensure effective delivery of projects.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Present and communicate with our CTO, engineering heads and other senior leaders on an ongoing basis to gather feedback, report progress and solve issues.

  • Work closely with technical teams and SMEs to ensure technology initiatives are delivered on time, within budget forecasts and deliver value identified at inception.

  • Work closely with non-technology teams including business lines, HR, Finance and Risk to ensure technology initiatives are meeting business needs and are integrated within the bank effectively.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Knowledge and experience with systems architecture practice to assess the usage of technologies and interoperability with other internal/external bank systems at an enterprise level.

  • Ability to evaluate and understand new innovations and assess technologies for use at the bank and best fit for the business.

  • 7+ years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Technology Governance, Architecture Governance, or a related technology leadership role is a must.

  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment with a high level of ambiguity.

  • Superior interpersonal skills, leadership, and influential capabilities

  • Self-motivated; work both independently and collaboratively with multi-functional teams, as both a leader and member.

  • Good knowledge of the specific technology challenges relevant to Banking industry and large enterprises with a sound understanding of current banking business trends and their implications for technology.

  • Superior planning and analytical skills, ability to discern research information / data and focus on the critical business issues.

  • Superior presentation and written communication skills at an executive level

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, information system or engineering; graduate business degree/MBA is a strong asset.

  • Excellent knowledge with MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong understanding of architecture policies, standards, principles, patterns, reference architectures, exemption processes, and governance controls.

  • Experience with governance reporting, dashboards, repositories, metrics, and evidence management to support transparency, auditability, and continuous improvement.

  • Extensive understanding of enterprise architecture framework such as TOGAF.

  • Business acumen and experience, with an understanding of vision, financial objectives, business functions, core processes, and the strategic significance of projects in relation to Scotiabank's goals, as well as the implications of project interactions and changes.
