Job Details
We are looking for a Senior Diagnostic Sonographer for a steady, long-term position. The right person will carry out diagnostic ultrasound examinations, assist with patient care, and contribute to keeping the imaging standards high throughout the clinic.
Job Duties
• Carry out diagnostic ultrasound examinations in line with clinical protocols and professional standards, covering abdominal, pelvic, obstetrical, vascular, and small parts examinations within the scope of the candidate's qualifications and responsibilities.
• Review requisitions and patient histories. Choose the right examination protocols. Get correct diagnostic images and measurements.
• Check the images for technical quality and completeness and get further images or measurements if necessary.
• Get patients ready, explain procedures, and keep them comfortable, safe, and private.
• Accurately and promptly provide the results of the document examination, including the measurements and any other relevant patient information.
• Talk to radiologists, the physicians who referred the patient, and other healthcare professionals regarding the examination procedures, the technical findings, and the patient's concerns.
• Where qualified and assigned, assist physicians and radiologists with ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Carry out specialized examinations, such as high-risk obstetrical ultrasound, liver elastography, or echocardiography, where qualified personnel have been assigned.
• Adhere to the infection-prevention, patient-safety, privacy, and quality-assurance procedures.
• Do regular equipment quality checks and report technical problems.
• When needed, offer technical advice and help to junior or newly hired sonographers with their orientation.
• We can efficiently manage examinations without compromising either image quality or patient care.
• Carry out other sonography tasks within the range of the position.
Job Description
Qualifications and Requirements
• Having completed a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program that is recognized or one that is equivalent in terms of education and training.
• It is necessary to be currently registered with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) in order to carry out the duties assigned.
• The ability to carry out the ultrasound examinations that have been assigned in a safe and independent manner.
• A thorough understanding of ultrasound techniques, clinical guidelines, the equipment, medical terminology, and patient safety procedures.
• Experience performing obstetrical ultrasound examinations is required.
• Experience assisting with ultrasound-guided procedures, including thyroid biopsies, is required.
• One has to have strong skills in acquiring images, documenting things, communicating and organizing.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with patients, physicians, radiologists, and other imaging staff.
• Flexibility to work varying hours according to the clinic's operational needs.
• Minimum of five years of experience in diagnostic sonography, reflecting the senior nature of this role.
• Mentored and supervised junior sonographers and students, providing hands-on scanning guidance, reviewing image quality, and supporting daily workflow and scheduling to keep the department running efficiently.
Preferred qualifications
• Registration with ARDMS and/or Sonography Canada.
• Experience with high-risk obstetrical ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, breast ultrasound, liver elastography, and ultrasound-guided procedures, including thyroid FNA.
• Experience guiding or mentoring other sonographers.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to communicate in more than one language is preferred.
