Full Job Description
The Senior Buyer reports directly to the Senior Procurement Manager. This person is overall responsible for procuring direct materials, capital, and services to ensure that Leiters' operational requirements are met, while considering supply reliability, price, and quality. This person is also responsible for assisting the Senior Procurement Manager by developing and maintaining processes to assess vendor and material performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Purchasing
    • Purchase materials including packaging, chemicals, excipients, and supplies. Process purchase requisitions for services and capital expenses.
    • Leverage purchasing MRP tools including data analytics and the ERP system to optimize purchasing decisions that support business continuity and efficient spending.
    • Partner with Warehouse and Incoming Quality to ensure production has the necessary materials in the right place at the right time.
    • Track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and maintain an accurate database of vendor information and performance.
    • Maintain system records of goods ordered and received.
    • Escalate purchasing issues or concerns to leadership. Utilize problem solving tools to understand root cause, determine short term and long-term corrective actions, and preventative actions.
  • Supplier Relationship
    • Promote and manage vendor relationships that support mutually beneficial partnerships.
    • Ensure adherence to supply agreements and existing contracts with vendors.
    • Support sourcing initiatives for new and alternate materials.
  • Inventory Management
    • Monitor and optimize safety stock levels.
    • Promote and maintain cleanliness of on hand inventory through routine assessments of materials approaching expiry and slow moving.
  • Cost Management
    • Maintain a strong focus on cost when carrying out responsibilities including monitoring and managing purchase price variance.
    • Demonstrate good business acumen and financial knowledge such as variances, COGS, and margins.
    • Work directly with Accounts Payable on invoice resolution.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Develop and execute strategies to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement.
    • Develop and manage KPI metrics to track vendor performance and inventory levels.
    • Recognize opportunities for improving procedures and policies regarding suppliers.
  • Leadership, Collaboration and Training
    • Collaborate effectively with Operations, Quality, Finance, Warehouse, and other departments to achieve business objectives.
    • Clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization.
    • Train and support other buyers. Act as Subject Matter Expert by answering questions, providing guidance and identifying potential procurement concerns.
    • Backfill other buyer roles and procurement leadership as required.
    • Identify adverse market trends and recommend improvements to mitigate the impact.

EXPERIENCE AND NECESSARY COMPETENCIES:

  • 3+ years of related experience in purchasing for manufacturing environments, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and must be adaptable to change.
  • Possess analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems and highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong results orientation.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds periodically.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 11:30pm - 8am
