Full Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for:
The Novecare Synthesis & Development team is seeking a candidate for a Scientist I role focused on organic synthesis and process development. Working under the direction of an R&I Manager or designated senior scientist, you will carry out defined laboratory programs that support technology roadmaps, customer needs, and manufacturing improvements. The role offers a structured path from supervised experimental execution toward greater technical independence, with exposure to reactor operation, analytical characterization, process optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer.
We count on you to:
Work safely and follow Company and site procedures; prepare and handle samples, reagents, catalysts, solvents, and laboratory materials using approved practices.
Plan and execute laboratory-scale organic synthesis and process-development experiments with guidance, supporting roadmap projects, customer needs, and manufacturing improvements.
Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down bench-scale laboratory equipment; after training and qualification, operate computer-controlled and/or pressure reactor systems that may include ethoxylation or propoxylation programs.
Perform reaction workups, purification, and fit-for-purpose analytical characterization using various techniques, for example TLC, HPLC, UV/Vis, Karl Fischer, NMR, and colorimetry.
Analyze experimental and process data to improve yield, reproducibility, batch consistency, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency; identify problems and recommend next steps with guidance.
Maintain complete ELN records, sample traceability, SOPs, work instructions, technical reports, presentations, and data packages in accordance with quality and safety expectations.
Support process optimization, scale-up studies, manufacturing trials, and technology transfers while collaborating with R&I, market or application laboratories, pilot plant, production, engineering, quality, and analytical teams.
Organize work across multiple concurrent chemistry-related projects and communicate progress, technical risks, results, and follow-up actions clearly to stakeholders.
Experience and Skills
You will bring:
Must-have qualifications
B.S. in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field, with 0+ years of relevant academic, co-op, internship, or industrial laboratory experience. •
Foundational knowledge of organic chemistry, process chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and safe laboratory practices. •
Hands-on experience or substantial laboratory coursework in organic synthesis, reaction workups, purification, and analytical characterization. •
Demonstrated capability to safely set up, operate, monitor, and shut down bench-scale equipment used for chemistry and process-development work, following approved procedures and training. •
Experience contributing to chemistry-related projects, with the ability to organize, prioritize, and execute assignments across multiple concurrent projects. •
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, including R&I, market or application laboratories, pilot plant, production or manufacturing, engineering, quality, and analytical functions. •
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including accurate experimental documentation and clear communication of results, project updates, and technical conclusions. •
Ability to analyze data, recognize trends, troubleshoot experimental problems, and maintain high-quality ELN, SOP, and technical records. •
Possible travel up to 20%.
Nice-to-have qualifications
Graduate-level chemistry coursework or an advanced degree. •
Experience with design of experiments (DOE), including planning, execution, interpretation, and communication of results. •
Experience with automated, computer-controlled, or pressure reactors; alkoxylation chemistry; or reactor-control software such as iControl or an equivalent system. •
Experience in specialty chemical manufacturing, process optimization, scale-up, technology transfer, GLP, or GMP-influenced laboratory practices.
