Reliability Maintenance TechnicianReliability Maintenance Technician - ChillerThe Reliability Maintenance technician is responsible for the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of assigned industrial chiller systems. This role provides technical ownership and subject matter expertise for chillers supporting site operations, including routine monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance support, and long-range planning. The Technician works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, OEM partners, and support functions to ensure critical cooling assets meet performance and reliability expectations.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Own assigned industrial chillers (e.g., MP, CAC, A-Unit, Flowables) and take the technical lead on efficient operation and reliability.
- Perform routine weekly and bi-weekly monitoring of chiller operating parameters using control panels and maintain detailed performance and maintenance logs.
- Monitor refrigerant, oil, and coolant levels; perform leak detection using handheld detection equipment.
- Troubleshoot temperature, load, oil migration, and refrigerant imbalance issues and recommend corrective actions, including parameter adjustments or physical changes.
- Support periodic inspections including vibration testing, oil analysis, and refrigerant analysis, coordinating findings and follow-up actions.
- Provide shutdown and startup support including refrigerant evacuation, vessel and exchanger opening, seal replacement, relief valve work, and system charging.
- Support major repairs such as compressor and motor replacements and assist during system testing prior to and during process startups.
- Forecast major equipment repairs and contribute to long-range asset planning, design improvements, and new or replacement chiller projects.
- Maintain spare parts awareness and inventory accuracy within SAP and support improvements to preventive maintenance plans and procedures.
- Support development of training materials and procedures to enhance chiller operation and maintenance capability across the site.
- Adhere to all site safety requirements, permitting processes, and Bayer policies while working in industrial operating environments.
- Support site HVAC needs across the site.
- Support Rotating Equipment Department work as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of maintenance or chiller operations experience.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification or ability to get within 18 months.
- Applicable state HVAC/Refrigeration license or ability to get within 18 months.
- Able to perform highly complex repairs, adjustments, and modifications on plant equipment and systems.
- Demonstrated operational and reliability awareness with the ability to align production and maintenance utilization.
- The ability to perform repairs, adjustments, and modifications that are non-routine and of extensive complexity is a basic expectation in this role.
- Extensive hands-on experience with:
- Shutdown/startup support and major repairs
- OEM coordination and system performance evaluation
- Strong proficiency in SAP.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize work, allocate resources effectively, and make sound operational decisions.
- Ability to read and understand manufacturing literature.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- HVAC or Refrigeration Technical Training preferred (i.e., HVAC technical school or apprenticeship program in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial maintenance).
- Significant experience servicing and troubleshooting industrial refrigeration or chiller systems.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Oil systems, refrigerants, compressors, and heat exchangers

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of $37.83-$43.96 per hour. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
