  • Position Overview

As a Principal Quantitative User Experience Researcher, you will shape how Autodesk AEC quantitatively understands users, critical user journeys, and product experience. You will bring deep expertise in quantitative research, survey science, and statistics, working alongside qualitative researchers, Data Science, Product Analytics, and product teams to connect what users say with what they do.

Your work will help teams answer consequential product questions: Which user problems matter most? How widespread and severe are they? Which populations and journeys are most affected? Where should we invest? And did the changes we made actually improve the experience?

As a Principal-level practitioner, you will both lead sophisticated research and build the quantitative capability of the broader AEC research organization - establishing approaches, advising others, and raising the quality and impact of quantitative evidence in product decision-making. This role reports to the Director, User Research, AEC.

Travel: Approximately 2-4 times per year across North America

    Responsibilities

    Experience & Journey Measurement

    • Build our quantitative understanding of critical user journeys, including their frequency, importance, pain points, and outcomes, to identify where experience improvements can create the greatest user value.

    • Establish scalable approaches for experience measurement and benchmarking across products, journeys, and competitive experiences, enabling teams to understand change over time.

    • Design and execute quantitative research using surveys, behavioral data, experiments, and other methods appropriate to the research question.

    • Develop approaches for measuring emerging AI and agentic experiences, including usefulness, quality, trust, adoption, and overall experience.

    Attitudinal + Behavioral Integration

    • Partner closely with Data Science and Product Analytics to integrate attitudinal and behavioral data and develop a more complete understanding of users, journeys, and outcomes.

    • Identify opportunities for more advanced approaches - including segmentation, predictive modeling, and experimentation - and partner with Data Science to pursue them when appropriate.

    Strategic Product Decision Support

    • Translate quantitative evidence into clear recommendations that inform product prioritization, strategy, and investment decisions.

    • Build quantitative research capability across AEC by establishing practices, advising and mentoring researchers, and shaping the longer-term direction of the discipline.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 8+ years of related experience applying quantitative research methods to complex, ambiguous product questions, with a demonstrated track record of operating at a senior or principal level of scope and impact.

    • Deep expertise in quantitative research design, applied statistics, and survey methodology, including sampling, measurement, bias, and validity.

    • Proficiency in R, Python, SQL or comparable statistical tools and experience working with large or complex datasets.

    • Demonstrated ability to integrate quantitative research with behavioral, qualitative, or business data to generate actionable insights.

    • Strong communication and influencing skills, including the ability to translate complex evidence, uncertainty, and tradeoffs for product teams and senior leaders.

    • Experience operating independently in ambiguous environments and shaping research approaches and priorities.

    Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:

    • Partnering closely with Data Science or Product Analytics to integrate survey and behavioral data, with exposure to segmentation, predictive modeling, and/or experimentation.

    • Evaluating AI-enabled products or other emerging technologies.

    • Working across complex, multi-product ecosystems.

    • Building quantitative capability through consultation, mentoring, shared practices, or standards.
