Full Job Description

The Visual Investigations Producer is a highly skilled reporter/producer with a proven track record of using OSINT and other digital forensic tools and methodologies to produce groundbreaking video journalism. Must have sharp editorial judgement to uncover original stories that expose wrongdoing and hold powerful people and institutions accountable.

They must have the ability to mine information from an array of sources and turn reporting into compelling visual products for multiple platforms. The visual investigations producer must be a self-starter, an enthusiastic employee with deep curiosity, and able to work well on a team.

Their main responsibilities will include all aspects of story research and newsgathering, including visuals – whether graphics, animations or field production, scripting edits and execution on multiple projects simultaneously. This multi-platform video journalist helps develop story pitches, research investigative ideas and participates in story brainstorming meetings. They will research and secure interviews with individuals and sources who will offer a unique perspective and drive the story, pre-interview possible characters, develop creative ideas for storytelling, confirm facts and gather appropriate photos, documents, and other appropriate research for production elements. Other responsibilities include identifying, researching and locating video clips and sound bites, and conceiving creative, dynamic graphics. They will also be responsible for producing field shoots, such as determining locations, setting up interviews, and securing permissions needed. The Producer works closely with a team of Senior and Supervising Producers, Senior Writers and Correspondents on video projects, as well as running their own projects.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Create compelling videojournalismfor digital andlinearplatforms

  • Conduct deep-dive open-source research and verification, leveraging advanced digital forensic tools and methodologies.

  • Proficiency in OSINT methods and tools including video verification, AI detection, geolocation, chronolocation, social media scraping, and metadata analysis.  Proficient in analyzing satellite imagery, as well as marine and flight tracking, etc.

  • Skilled at conceiving and overseeing production of motion graphics and animations including 3D animation when necessary.

  • Develop and execute digital video investigations from start to finish including pre- and post-production.

  • Assist in or write text stories for publishing on CNNs digital platforms

  • Produce live segments, both in the field or in the studio or from remote network locationsas needed

  • Knowledge of photojournalism/cameras, editing and animations software a plus

  • Uphold and advance CNNs journalistic standards, ethics, and commitment to impactful storytelling.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of production experience in the news television industry or digital video journalism, with investigative reporting experience a necessity.

  • BA/BS in journalism, politics or a related field preferred or equivalent in experience.

  • Must have strong news judgment as well as strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication, research, and production skills.

  • Past reporting and field experience is an advantage.
