Role PurposeCorning is hiring a Process Engineer to support manufacturing operations at its Canton, New York facility. This is a full-time, onsite role with a standard Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, with additional time as business needs require. Limited travel (approximately 5-10%) may be necessary for internal meetings, training courses, or supplier and customer visits.
At the Canton site, engineers support advanced glass and materials manufacturing across semiconductor, aerospace, and defense applications. The Process Engineer plays an active role on the plant floor, partnering closely with production, maintenance, and experienced engineering team members to support stable, efficient, and continuously improving processes. Success in this role comes from building process knowledge, applying sound engineering fundamentals, learning from data and plant experience, and clearly communicating observations and recommendations in a union manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support process improvement initiatives to improve yield, quality, cost, and manufacturing performance.
- Monitor process performance and help identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Apply structured problem-solving methods, with guidance as needed, to investigate process upsets and support implementation of corrective actions.
- Assist with new product and process launches, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret process data to support action plans and technical recommendations.
- Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support daily manufacturing operations and troubleshoot issues.
- Develop process understanding through direct floor support, data analysis, and collaboration with experienced team members.
- Provide technical support for projects and initiatives aligned with plant and business objectives.
Experiences/Education - Required- Bachelor of Science degree in ceramic, materials, chemical engineering, or a related engineering field.
- 0-2 years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, internship, co-op, research, or process engineering environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical issues and observations.
- Demonstrated ability or interest in working in a manufacturing or production-focused environment.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively in a team-based environment.

Experiences/Education - Desired- Internship, co-op, research, or other hands-on engineering experience in manufacturing, materials, or process development.
- Exposure to structured problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, KT, scientific method).
- Experience with data analysis and interpretation to support engineering decisions.
- Ability to work effectively with hourly production employees in a union setting.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $70,776.00 - $97,317.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
