Principal Software Engineer - Clinical AnalyticsThis position is based out of our headquarters in the Greater Seattle area. #LI-hybridThis Opportunity At Truveta, you'll help define how health systems use data to improve the quality of care. You'll work at the intersection of cloud services, analytical data platforms, and user experiences, setting the technical direction for technology that lets clinical and quality teams define, monitor, and act on the metrics that matter most.
Health systems deserve modern, intuitive tools for measuring care quality, yet getting answers from large-scale clinical data still often takes specialized skills and long turnaround times. At Truveta, we are building a next-generation analytics platform that lets health systems securely explore their data, track performance over time, and drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes.
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture and technical strategy of Truveta's clinical analytics platform. You will be both a hands-on builder and a force multiplier: designing the systems that power low-latency analytics and self-serve dashboarding, writing critical code, raising the engineering bar, and mentoring engineers across the organization.
You will partner with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering leadership to translate the needs of health systems into a durable platform vision, then guide teams in delivering it. This role offers the opportunity to shape a foundational product area, tackle ambiguous and technically demanding problems, and make a meaningful impact on our mission of saving lives with data.
Work Areas: - Define the end-to-end architecture for clinical analytics: analytical data serving, metric definition and computation, and self-serve dashboarding and visualization for health systems.
- Make foundational design decisions on OLAP and analytical storage, data modeling, query performance, caching, and scalability for population-level health data.
- Design secure multi-tenant systems with strong data isolation, fine-grained access control, and auditability appropriate for sensitive health data.
- Determine how health systems define, customize, and share their own metrics and dashboards, balancing flexibility with governance, performance, and cost.
- Build and prototype critical components, set technical standards, and lead design and code reviews across teams.
- Mentor and grow engineers, and partner with other engineering leaders to align roadmaps and reduce technical risk across the broader Truveta data platform.
- Establish engineering practices for reliability, observability, and operational excellence in production analytics services.
Key Qualifications - BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale software systems, with a track record of technical leadership on complex, multi-team initiatives.
- Deep experience with data, OLAP, or analytics technologies, including analytical databases, BI and dashboarding platforms, and data modeling for high-performance reporting workloads.
- Strong backend engineering expertise in .NET (C#), Python, or a similar language, including REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures on platforms such as Azure.
- Demonstrated ability to make and communicate sound architectural tradeoffs, and to drive alignment among engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical capability of a team.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical design documents and explain complex systems to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience building embedded analytics, self-serve BI, or data-driven products for technical or business users.
- Experience with multi-tenant architectures, including row-level security and tenant isolation, in regulated or sensitive-data environments.
- Familiarity with healthcare data, clinical quality measures, or health informatics.
- Experience with containerized deployments, infrastructure as code, and operating high-availability production services.
- Experience applying AI or natural-language interfaces to analytics and data exploration.
