Air Liquide is Hiring a Plant Engineer
  • Salary Range: $105,000 - $115,000
  • Location: Hamilton, ON
  • Ability to work on-call nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Occasional travel


Job Summary

The primary objective of this position is to provide technical support to operational teams by identifying opportunities for process improvements and refurbishment projects in production plants, while ensuring equipment safety, reliability, and efficiency. The incumbent ensures that projects are properly executed to meet production objectives while promoting Air Liquide Canada's (ALC) quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Solves operational problems, assists with plant start-ups and optimization, and implements planning and control techniques.
  • Helps identify production issues, develops specifications for production procedures, revises existing procedures, and keeps employees informed of company policies.
  • Anticipates production needs and identifies, recommends, and implements changes to plant processes, equipment, and systems to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Analyzes new equipment, optimizes resource utilization, and drives individual contributions and innovative working methods.
  • Proposes objectives based on production priorities and direction, ensuring project success and sustainable results.
  • Evaluates and improves performance in safety, environment, production quality, profitability, equipment reliability, production capacity, and process improvement.
  • Manages local plant projects and acts as a facilitator for major projects led by the corporate project team, following up from planning to commissioning using standard project management processes.
  • Ensures Management of Change (MOC) processes and documentation controls are properly executed.
  • Partners with immediate and cross-functional teams to continuously improve workflows, analyze operations, identify root causes of malfunctions, and propose effective corrective measures.
  • Contributes to defining and implementing safety recommendations and procedures, coaches others on risk management, and performs audits and preventive actions.
  • Identifies potential risks, implements corrective actions, ensures regulatory compliance and deadlines are met, and integrates risk prevention early into the design stage.
  • Upholds safety as our highest priority. Safety procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, flame-retardant clothing, and safety shoes throughout every work shift.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree (preferably in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering).
  • 1-5 years of engineering experience (preferably in an industrial plant setting).
  • Ability to lift, move, or carry heavy equipment (>50 lbs) and work in physically challenging positions as required.
  • Ability to move, react, and navigate various plant environments quickly in response to operational and process needs.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to model core behavioral competencies, including promoting safety, committing to company performance, thinking innovatively, adapting to change, remaining solution-focused, communicating with impact, and effectively managing competing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate technical and complex problems effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to identify and explain hazards present in an energy isolation procedure.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of control panels and operator interface console operations.
