As a pivotal clinical leader and Rehab unit manager, the Unit Manager RN ensures exceptional patient recovery outcomes, maintains optimal nursing staff performance, and manages smooth, compliant daily unit operations:
Rehabilitation Clinical Oversight & Daily Rounds:
Conduct systematic daily nursing rounds across the post-acute rehabilitation unit to evaluate patient physical progress, assess complex wound care, monitor IV therapies, and detect subtle acute changes in condition.
Review individualized care plans regularly to ensure all nursing interventions align with attending physician orders and specialized physical, occupational, and speech therapy goals.
Lead acute clinical interventions, post-surgical care routines, and complex pain management protocols.
Directly supervise, mentor, and empower charge nurses, LPNs, and CNAs on the shift, promoting clinical accountability, teamwork, and compassionate care delivery.
Oversee medication administration practices, infection control techniques, and EHR charting to guarantee absolute precision across the care team.
Conduct performance evaluations, manage staff scheduling, and provide real-time coaching to cultivate a high-performing rehabilitation nursing team.
Regulatory Compliance, Quality Assurance & EHR Standards:
Maintain meticulous medical records in strict compliance with HIPAA standards, state nurse practice acts, and federal/state long-term care regulations.
Actively participate in facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committees, safety audits, infection control monitoring, and fall reduction strategies.
Ensure the unit remains fully survey-ready at all times for state health inspections.
Interdisciplinary Coordination & Family Communication:
Partner seamlessly with attending physicians, medical directors, physiatrists, physical/occupational/speech therapists, social workers, and clinical dietitians to foster a holistic recovery environment.
Act as the primary clinical liaison for family members, conducting routine update calls, addressing concerns promptly, and facilitating comprehensive discharge planning and education.
Unit Operations & Resource Management:
Manage unit supplies, medication room inventory, and adaptive clinical equipment to maintain an organized, fully functional rehabilitation setting.
Manage resident admissions, internal unit transfers, and discharge procedures efficiently while maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.
Qualifications
Licensure: Must hold an active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin (or multi-state NLC equivalent).
Certifications: Current CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
Clinical Experience: 2+ years of clinical nursing experience required. Prior management, supervisory, or unit leadership experience as a Unit Manager RN or Rehab unit manager in post-acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, or surgical care environments is highly advantageous.
Leadership & Decision-Making: Proven capability to work autonomously when making critical unit decisions under pressure, while building a cohesive, collaborative team environment.
Tech Proficiency: Solid working knowledge of computers, standard Electronic Health Records (EHR) platforms (e.g., PointClickCare), and digital clinical tools.
