Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, Ohio.

Battelle is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to perform engineering research and analysis across a variety of mechanical components and systems. In this role, you will apply core engineering principles - including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, materials science, and structural analysis - to design, analyze, test, and maintain mechanical systems ranging from industrial equipment and transport systems to robotics and energy infrastructure.

You will also contribute to the development of numerical methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and structural mechanics analyses, support research into efficient operation and control of energy and water resources, and play an active role in project execution, business development, and internal research efforts.

Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer, the selected individual will perform engineering analysis and design work across a broad range of mechanical systems and projects. Responsibilities may include:

  • Design, developing, and implementing numerical methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or structural mechanics analysis using advanced programming techniques
  • Compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, and analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process, or materials specifications
  • Conducting research and evaluation of technologies and methods for efficient operation and control of energy, water, and other resources
  • Interpreting, compiling, and analyzing collected data and authoring technical reports
  • Contributing to Internal Research & Development (IR&D) studies
  • Supporting business development efforts led by senior staff
  • Assisting with proposal efforts as needed
  • Completing assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal clients
  • May oversee junior staff in extracting and preparing data for analysis

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $66,500 - $94,800 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
