In this highly visible site role, you will partner with business teams to design and document requirements, and develop technical strategies and a software roadmap for delivery of features. We're seeking an experienced technical leader and software development manager with a proven track record in leading teams building highly-scalable, cloud-based distributed services with millisecond latency requirements. You should have deep expertise in Service Oriented Architecture, microservices, and both relational and non-relational databases. Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams, driving technical strategy, and delivering large-scale projects is essential.

Key job responsibilities
• Build and lead a team of software engineers, setting technical direction and maintaining high standards of engineering excellence
• Mentor and develop engineers through career growth and technical advancement
• Manage team resources, hiring, and organizational planning
• Lead the design and architecture of large-scale, highly distributed, real-time systems that are core to managing Amazon's supply chain.
• Enforce professional software engineering guidelines and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Partner with product, program management, and other engineering teams to define and execute technical roadmaps
• Work closely with senior leaders, researchers, and data engineers across multiple teams to design and implement supply chain optimization solutions
• Gather and analyze business requirements, translate them into technical specifications
• Maintain technical documentation and recommend improvements to development and system standards
• Participate in on-call rotation as part of standard engineering responsibilities
• Operate in an agile environment, prioritizing high-impact work while maintaining exceptional reliability standards

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
