In this role, you will own the technical vision and strategic roadmap for your team's systems, define how your software solves real customer problems, and partner across organizations to deliver impactful results.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a software development team, setting the team's charter, vision, and roadmap while ensuring delivery of high-quality, maintainable software systems across the full lifecycle.
- Define and own the 1-2 year technical strategy for your team's products and systems, making architectural decisions that balance scalability, performance, security, and long-term maintainability.
- Coach and develop engineers through collaborative development planning, actionable feedback, and strategic project assignments that accelerate individual growth and strengthen the team's overall capabilities.
- Partner with product management, peer engineering teams, and stakeholders to align priorities, resolve cross-team dependencies, and deliver cohesive solutions that address customer needs.
- Establish operational metrics and audit mechanisms to measure system health and customer experience, proactively identifying risks and driving simplification of processes and architecture.
A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing operational dashboards and triaging an incoming request from a partner team, then shift into a design review where you challenge assumptions and help engineers refine their approach. After a one-on-one coaching session with a direct report, you collaborate with product and engineering peers to prioritize the next quarter's roadmap. Throughout, you balance hands-on technical judgment with people leadership, ensuring your team has the clarity and support they need to deliver great software.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
