Full Job Description
ARTECHOUSE is seeking a Location General Manager to serve as the senior operational leader for our Washington, DC location. This role owns the full day-to-day success of the venue - from staffing and scheduling to facility and vendor relationships, operations budget and inventory oversight, and the seamless execution of programming, private events, and bar operations. The ideal candidate brings a background in theater, hospitality, or experiential/attraction operations, with a strong customer service foundation and the business acumen to run a multi-revenue-stream venue

WHO YOU ARE:
You are a business-minded operator who thrives on ownership. You've run the floor, managed an operations budget or P&L, and know what it takes to deliver a great guest experience while keeping a building running smoothly behind the scenes. You're equally comfortable managing a landlord relationship, coaching a team member through a tough shift, and supporting a private event client. You understand the rhythms of experiential, attraction, hospitality, or tourism-driven businesses - where visitor volume, seasonality, and event calendars all compete for the same space and staff.
This is a hands-on, floor-present role. You spend most of your day walking the floor, interacting with guests, and coaching your team - not sitting behind a desk. You spot service gaps instantly by observing peak rushes, communication flow, and staff execution, and you're expected to work alongside your team and be available on weekends. You're a team player who works well cross-functionally, and you take real ownership over the success of your venue.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the senior operational leader for the DC location, with full accountability for day-to-day venue operations, including space maintenance and exhibition operations.
  • Oversee venue staffing across all functions - visitor experience, bar, events, and technical/production support - across exhibition hours, private events, and live programming.
  • Manage a team of approximately 15-20 staff, maintaining a consistent floor presence across a few shifts per week including weekends.
  • Own scheduling for the full team, balancing labor costs against visitor flow, event calendars, and programming needs.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and performance management for all staff, including coaching, counseling, and delegating tasks with follow-up.
  • Ensure visitor experience and quality control standards are consistently excellent across all staff and departments.
  • Develop and implement best practices to maximize team efficiency, and uphold ARTECHOUSE's culture, reputation, and brand.
  • Oversee execution of private events and live programming, from logistics and staffing to on-site client management, ensuring a high-quality B2B and B2C guest experience.
  • Own bar operations, including staffing, service standards, inventory, and compliance with alcohol service regulations.
  • Manage all facility and vendor relationships, including bidding out jobs to contractors and suppliers and following up on supplier issues.
  • Own the landlord relationship for the DC location, including building issues and communication.
  • Oversee facility maintenance, repairs, and building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), ensuring building codes and permits remain current.
  • Serve as the venue's safety officer, ensuring compliance with OSHA, ADA, and fire code requirements.
  • Prepare and submit biweekly payroll, and own the location's operations budget and inventory, tracking spend and identifying efficiencies.
  • Review daily/weekly P&L and revenue metrics, adjusting labor and operations accordingly; reconcile cash, sales receipts, and reporting as needed.
  • Work closely with the Senior Revenue & Marketing Director on event sales and promotions, the Technical Operations lead on exhibition needs, and ARTECHOUSE founders on strategic priorities.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE:
  • 3-5 years of Operations Management Experience in a fast paced environment
  • Attraction/hospitality/museum management experience a must
  • Experience overseeing private events and live programming, including client-facing coordination.
  • Experience managing bar or F&B operations, including compliance and staffing a plus
  • Experience in facility management (maintenance, working with contractors & vendors, bidding out jobs)
  • Substantial decision making relative to personnel, safety, fiscal and facility/maintenance management
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively
  • High attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong time-management skills; ability to multitask, and prioritize
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience in dealing with guests in difficult situations

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Lift up to 40lbs, to load and transport bulk supplies, fixtures, etc.
  • Regular crouching, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, etc. to facilitate various repairs and maintenance activities
  • Ability to stand, walk on hard floor surfaces for a prolonged period of time
  • Ability to qualify for and secure a DC ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) Manager License.

COMPENSATION
