Full Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer Lead to guide safe delivery of federal facility assessment and hurricane recovery work in Kauai, Hawaii. The program may move quickly from inspecting damaged roofs, structures, and building envelopes to weatherproofing, water damage mitigation, debris removal, and facility and utility repairs. You will establish a consistent safety approach as teams enter damaged buildings, work around compromised infrastructure, and coordinate multiple subcontractors on active sites. This role offers the opportunity to shape field decisions, remove hazards before work begins, and help restore essential facilities safely.
This role will require an onsite presence in Kauai, Hawaii and is eligible for per diem related expenses when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation of site safety and health plans for field assessments, construction, restoration, and utility repair activities.
- Evaluate hazards associated with damaged structures, roofing, electrical systems, debris clearance, water intrusion, and changing site conditions.
- Conduct site inspections, pretask planning, safety briefings, and incident investigations; track corrective actions through closure.
- Review subcontractor safety plans and work practices and coordinate safety expectations with construction leadership.
- Maintain safety documentation, training records, inspection logs, and required reporting for federal project work.
- Exercise stop work authority when unsafe conditions arise and coordinate safe resumption of work.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field and 8+ years of construction safety and health management on complex construction or infrastructure projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 16+ years of construction safety and health management on complex construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience applying EM 385-1-1 and federal construction safety requirements.
- OSHA 30 construction training, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) credential.
