The Intermediate Underground Geologist will work closely with Mine Engineering, Mine Operations, drilling contractors, and other members of the Geology team to ensure geological information is collected, interpreted, and communicated effectively to support safe and informed operational decisions.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of independence, take ownership of assigned work and programs, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to Production Geologists, Geological Technicians, and other non-technical staff as required.

The Intermediate Underground Geologist is expected to lead by example and ensure all work is completed in accordance with established safety procedures, operating standards, and company values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work in conjunction with the Senior Geologist to achieve departmental and operational objectives.
  • Ensure geological activities are completed safely and in accordance with established procedures, standards, and operating practices.
  • Assist with the planning, prioritization, and execution of underground delineation drilling programs, including drill targeting, drill layouts, sequencing, monitoring of drilling progress, and review of drilling results.
  • Coordinate with Mine Engineering, Mine Operations, and drilling contractors to ensure delineation drilling programs are executed effectively and aligned with short-term and medium-term mine priorities.
  • Review geological and assay information from drilling, development, production, and grade control sampling.
  • Provide geological input and recommendations during the development of intermediate and final stope shapes.
  • Review upcoming stopes and development areas to identify geological risks, data gaps, grade continuity concerns, and opportunities for additional drilling or sampling.
  • Complete stope reconciliations, including comparison of geological models, design expectations, mined tonnes and grades, dilution, recovery, sampling results, and operational performance.
  • Prepare geological information and analysis for month-end reconciliation and reporting.
  • Contribute to daily, weekly, monthly, and other operational geological reports as required.
  • Review underground geological mapping, core logging, face sampling, wall sampling, muck sampling, and other geological data collection as required.
  • Review geological databases and ensure drilling, sampling, assay, mapping, and production information is accurately entered, validated, and available for interpretation and reconciliation.
  • Ensure established QAQC protocols are followed and assist with monitoring, reviewing, and reporting QAQC results.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of geological procedures, workflows, grade-control practices, drilling practices, modelling methods, and data-management standards.
  • Communicate geological observations, risks, and recommendations clearly to Mine Engineering, Mine Operations, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to Production Geologists, Geological Technicians, and other members of the Geology team as required.
  • Provide coverage and support to the Senior Geologist and Production Geologists as operational requirements dictate.
  • Assist in other areas of underground geology, production geology, resource definition, and mine geology as required.
