Full Job Description
Job Description

This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus subject to applicable terms and conditions.

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead the onsite HR function for a large, complex, high-volume unionized convention and events operation.

This role serves as both the HR leader for the account and the subject matter expert for Employee Relations, Labor Relations, and Collective Bargaining Agreement administration. The HR Manager will own the day-to-day HR function partnering closely with the General Manager and department heads to support the operation. Account-level business decisions will be made in partnership with the General Manager, while Regional HR will provide district oversight.

The successful candidate will bring broad HR leadership experience combined with deep labor and employee relations expertise. They must be equally comfortable leading a grievance meeting, conducting a complex investigation, advising a department head, reviewing a payroll issue, assessing staffing needs, developing their team, or identifying a compliance risk before it becomes a larger problem.

This is a highly visible role requiring someone who can step in with minimal learning curve, quickly understand the operation, establish credibility, and take ownership of the department. The ideal candidate combines confidence and sound judgment with compassion, candor, fairness, and the ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Conduct complex workplace investigations and provide clear, well-supported recommendations regarding discipline, corrective action, and resolution.
  • Coach managers and department leaders through performance management, attendance, conflict, employee complaints, and other sensitive employee relations matters.
  • Lead the overall HR function for the account and ensure HR programs, processes, documentation, and practices are executed accurately, consistently, and on time.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable District of Columbia, local, and federal employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour, leave, anti-discrimination, accommodation, and other workplace requirements.
  • Directly oversee all HR dept sub-functions and develop the Payroll Supervisor and Recruiting Specialist; establish clear expectations, accountability, and priorities for the team.
  • Partner closely with the Scheduling Manager on workforce planning, staffing needs, seniority and contractual considerations, and operational requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of payroll, recruiting, onboarding, employee records, leave administration, compliance, workforce administration, and other core HR processes.
  • Partner with the General Manager and department heads to anticipate workforce challenges, strengthen leadership practices, and develop practical HR solutions that support the business.
  • Identify significant employee relations, labor, payroll, leave, compliance, or legal-risk matters and escalate appropriately to Regional HR or other support partners.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve HR processes, employee experience, workforce effectiveness, and overall account performance.
