Summary of Role/PositionCarParts.com is seeking a Head of Pricing and Costing to lead pricing and cost strategy for a catalog of millions of SKUs across CarParts.com and our marketplace channels (Amazon, eBay, etc.). Reporting to the Chief Data and AI Officer, this leader will define pricing strategy for our private label, branded, and dropship assortment, oversee price execution across all channels, establish the framework for cost selection across a multi-vendor supply base, and advance the use of machine learning in price formation.
This is a player-coach role. The successful candidate will lead a lean, high-impact team of pricing analytics and data science professionals while remaining closely engaged in the core work, from data analysis and model development through to price execution. We are looking for an experienced pricing leader who has managed pricing at scale in a large, high-SKU retail or eCommerce business and has a proven record of translating pricing and cost decisions into revenue growth, margin improvement, and market share gains.
YOU WILL:Pricing Strategy- Own the end-to-end pricing strategy for CarParts.com and all marketplace channels across private label, branded, and dropship assortment.
- Establish channel-specific pricing rules, margin floors and guardrails, price architecture, and positioning by category, brand, and customer segment.
- Define competitive positioning policy, including where the business leads, matches, or follows the market, and where pricing is driven by demand, elasticity, and cost rather than competitor prices.
- Drive the application of machine learning to price formation.
- Design and oversee pricing experiments (A/B and test-versus-control) and quantify their impact on revenue, gross margin, conversion, and unit volume.
- Determine pricing for promotions, clearance, and overstock in partnership with Merchandising, Marketing, and Inventory Planning.
Price Execution Across Website and Marketplaces- Oversee price updates for CarParts.com and all marketplace channels, ensuring prices across millions of SKUs are accurate, timely, and compliant.
- Own pricing governance, including approval workflows, exception management, MAP compliance, marketplace fee and policy changes, and a complete audit trail for price changes.
- Monitor pricing performance on a daily basis, including margin leakage, pricing errors, out-of-bounds prices, competitor activity, and marketplace competitiveness, and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Partner with Data Engineering to automate price deployment at scale, reducing manual effort and accelerating time to market for pricing decisions.
Cost Strategy and Multi-Vendor Decisions- Develop the cost selection strategy for our multi-vendor supply base. Where a SKU is available from multiple vendors, warehouses, or dropship partners, determine the appropriate cost to apply in pricing, taking into account product cost, inbound freight, outbound shipping, fees, fill rate, lead time, and vendor reliability.
- Own the definition and integrity of the cost data used in pricing and margin reporting, establishing a single source of truth for cost across the organization.
- Translate changes in vendor costs, freight and shipping rates, tariffs, and marketplace fees into timely pricing actions that protect margin.
- Model the margin impact of cost scenarios such as vendor changes, cost increases, carrier changes, and free shipping thresholds.
- Partner with Purchasing and Vendor Management on cost negotiations, vendor scorecards, and cost reduction opportunities, supported by analysis of cost, market pricing, and volume.
Leadership and Stakeholder Management- Lead, coach, and develop a lean team of pricing analytics and data science professionals while contributing directly to analysis, modeling, and execution.
- Own pricing and margin KPIs, and present performance, insights, and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with Data Science, Data Engineering, Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to turn pricing and cost insights into business results.
YOU MUST HAVE:- 7+ years of pricing experience in large-scale eCommerce, retail, or marketplace businesses, with experience leading pricing initiatives or a pricing team.
- Proven track record of managing pricing for a catalog of millions of SKUs, including rules-based, automated, and algorithmic pricing at scale.

- Strong command of price elasticity, competitive pricing, price optimization, and experimentation, including the use of machine learning in pricing.
- Strong hands-on technical skills, including advanced SQL and Excel, and Python or R for analysis and modeling. Able to work directly in the data and models as well as direct the work of others.
- Demonstrated ability to translate analysis into measurable P&L outcomes and to communicate clearly and persuasively with executive leadership.
- Effective as a player-coach in a fast-paced, in-person, high-accountability environment with a lean team.
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
NICE TO HAVE:- Experience in the automotive aftermarket or another parts business with complex fitment data.
- Experience pricing private label products alongside a branded assortment.
- Experience with Databricks, Spark, or other cloud data platforms.
- Experience with commercial pricing software, in-house pricing engines, or competitor price monitoring.
