About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer, Navigation Technical Specialist who will perform technical execution scope associated with Navigational system design, algorithm development, software integration, sensor system modeling & analysis, performance analysis, hardware integrated testing, and weapons system verification within the Theater Strike Weapon Systems (TSWS) and Strategic Missile Defense (SMD) portfolios. Anchored by the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, the portfolio is undergoing rapid growth associated with multiple product lifecycle phases within CPS and several peer development program efforts.

In this role, you should anticipate:
• Working on advanced missile design, integration, testing, and analysis within a hypersonic weapon system program
• Leveraging past experience in weapon system and missile system/subsystem development and analysis to shape current and future program execution
• Collaborating with program managers, systems and software engineering or engineering leaders to delivery component(s)/subsystem(s), designs, and analysis to programs
• Provides programmatic direction to engineering staff and team(s), collaborates on execution, analysis, design/peer reviews
• Applying proficiency in C++ and MATLAB to develop, verify, validate, and perform analysis, review analysis artifacts of others, assess data products, and delivery technical summary briefings
• Communicating technical results effectively and working collaboratively across teams, working groups, review boards, and technical execution teams
• Support Agile execution of programs and projects through proposals, planning/backlog development, product ownership, and staffing coordination

Job Responsibilities and Navigation Specialist tasks, will include:
• Develop and review data packages, analysis, and presentations for working groups, review board
• Coordinate internal efforts and external elements (partner, subcontractor, peer prime) to develop, verify, and validate navigational sensors and algorithms to achieve weapon system performance
• Evaluate system performance in complex scenarios and environments and verify system and subsystem level requirements across simulation, hardware testing, and full system test execution
• Support program reviews and technical interchange meetings with internal leadership and/or external customers.

Successful applicants generally have at least 9+ years of related experience and may have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline, such as Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations and control laws to achieve a desired position in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft.

• Fundamentals of inertial navigation systems (INS) and/or GNSS (multi constellation, RTK, SBAS)
• Familiarity with navigation performance metrics (accuracy, availability, continuity, or integrity).
• Understanding of Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) concepts, error budgeting, and integrity monitoring
• Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and/or Python for algorithm development and data analysis.
• Knowledge of software methods or standards including safety critical items and/or version control systems (Git, Gitlab, Artifact repos)
• Ability to develop and maintain navigation error budgets, covariance analysis, and/or perform statistical analyses
• Proficiency with high fidelity simulation tools

Security Clearance / Work Authorization:
• To meet requirements of the program/customer, this position requires the selected employee to be a U.S. Citizen.
• Secret clearance is required to start employment.
• Selected candidates will be required to obtain, and maintain, a government issued Secret clearance for long term employment on this program.

• Experience in Advanced PNT Concepts, like; precise orbit determination, time transfer, sensor fusion (INS GNSS ADS), integrity monitoring, differential GNSS, and emerging technologies and augmented autonomous navigation.
• Demonstrated Navigation Performance Metric efforts; Ability to define, compute, and validate metrics such as accuracy, integrity, continuity, availability, and reliability
• Experience defining technical requirements, reviewing subcontractor proposals, and validating deliverables.
• Experience defining technical requirements, reviewing subcontractor proposals, managing interface control documents with traceability, and validating deliverables.
• Familiarity with cyber resilient navigation concepts, anti spoofing/anti jamming techniques, and secure PNT architectures
• Designing, configuring, and executing HWIL test rigs for navigation software validation on flight processors including proficiency in real time operating systems (RTOS) for time deterministic navigation processing

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $135700.00 - $251900.00

The salary range for this position is as listed on the requisition. Please note that the salary information listed is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market(work location) and business considerations when extending an offer.

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
