Full Job Description
Gas Storage Engineer

The Gas Storage Engineer is responsible for supporting field and well operations for underground natural gas storage assets, including salt caverns and depleted reservoirs. This role provides technical expertise in well integrity, risk management, and regulatory compliance, while driving continuous improvement in storage operations and systems. This position reports to the Manager of Gas Storage Engineering.

What You Will Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute operating and maintenance activities for assigned gas storage assets in accordance with company procedures and applicable API 1170/1171 standards
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders to meet deliverability, injectivity, and reliability targets
  • Identify, evaluate, document, and mitigate well integrity threats
  • Perform risk assessments, including threat evaluation, risk ranking, and long-term integrity planning
  • Provide technical support to internal teams, including Field Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Gas Control, Corrosion, and Regulatory groups
  • Support regulatory interactions with PHMSA and state agencies as needed
  • Maintain and continuously improve data systems and applications, including:
    • Gas Storage Database
    • Well Risk Matrix
    • Logging Schedules
    • Well Files

What You Need

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in underground natural gas storage, reservoir engineering, or the regulated gas industry
  • Recent graduates may qualify with relevant internships, co-op experience, research projects, or academic coursework related to reservoirs, wells, or subsurface engineering
  • Foundational knowledge of reservoir engineering principles, including material balance, performance monitoring, and basic forecasting concepts
  • Ability to analyze data, identify potential issues, and support development of effective technical solutions, with guidance as needed
  • Basic understanding of well operations, including wellbore, wellhead, and downhole operations
  • Familiarity with well logging techniques and introductory interpretation concepts
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and support projects while meeting deadlines and complying with company policies and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Commitment to safety and active participation in safety programs
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Willingness to comply with PHMSA drug testing requirements


Work Environment

  • This role follows a hybrid schedule, with work-from-home on Thursday and Friday, and in-office work on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at our downtown Houston, Texas location.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required
  • Occasional after-hours support may be necessary
  • Requires extended periods of computer-based work
  • Must be available to carry a company-issued phone and laptop and respond as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of underground natural gas storage standards, practices, and procedures
  • Familiarity with API RP 1170 and 1171
  • Understanding of well integrity risks in depleted reservoirs and salt cavern storage
  • Knowledge of failure pressure and safe operating pressure calculations for well components
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to organize, interpret, and apply complex technical data
