Full Job Description
Your Role on the Team

The FP&A Sr. Analyst reports directly to the Associate Director, School of Medicine Finance and works closely with the Director, School of Medicine Finance. The position serves as the Dean's Office FP&A partner to multiple clinical departments varying in size and complexity and will be responsible for supporting Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) services that will enable clinical department leaders and SOM leadership to make timely decisions and achieve desired financial results.

The position will play a key role in supporting the SOM's annual budgeting process, financial quarterly forecast, financial plan variance analysis and special projects including financial systems transformations supporting UCI Medical Center. S/he will analyze actual vs plan reporting, explain the underlying drivers, track key clinical operational metrics, develop assumptions to model forward-looking financial reports. S/he will be a key advisor in providing consulting and strategic support to SOM clinical departments and Sr. leadership team with guidance from the Associate Director, School of Medicine Finance to understand future performance, assess risks, and align resources with strategic goals. S/he will manage the relationships with the SOM departments and other stakeholders through strategic planning analysis of trends, scenario planning, and providing actionable insights. Further, this position will also support analyses from a school-wide perspective and play an essential supporting role in most aspects of SOM's financial planning and reporting such as developing reports due to Campus, rolling forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes. S/he will support the quarterly reporting publication that consolidate SOM's financial performance and key performance indicators.

The position requires regular leading of projects of critical importance to SOM and carry substantial consequences of successes or failure. S/he will require wide-range of accounting and FP&A experience to analyze complex clinical operations with organization-wide impact with little precedence and variable factors. S/he will exercise judgement on selecting assumptions, following healthcare trends, serve as a subject matter expert for clinical departments' financial performance that has a high degree of complexity. S/he will need to develop and recommend new metrics, reporting, and processes to improve the value of decision support activities and process efficiencies.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:
  • Solid understanding of financial modeling and forecasting techniques with demonstrated ability to build robust models to accurately predict future performance, develop scenarios and stress-test assumptions, and provide insights to support strategic planning and decision-making
  • Strong presentation skills with ability to translate complex data into executive presentations
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP or GASB, finance policies, practices, and systems
  • Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
  • Expert ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Expert ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to synthesize and integrate highly complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Expert interpersonal and consulting skills at all levels within the organization
  • Expert service orientation, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail
  • Expert ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred
  • CPA/MBA preferred with focus on Finance, Accounting, Business, Statistics or related field or equivalent experience /training
  • 10 years of experience with BA/BS or equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 to 3 years in accounting, 3-5 years in FP&A


Preferred:
  • CPA (inactive) preferred
