Job SummaryOpenGov is seeking an ERP Solutions Engineer to guide local government finance teams through evaluating and implementing OpenGov's financial solutions. In this role, you'll conduct discovery with government finance teams, translate their accounting workflows into system configurations, and deliver compelling demos that show how OpenGov modernizes budgeting, general ledger management, procurement, and financial reporting. You'll combine deep accounting expertise with hands-on product knowledge to help cities and counties understand the operational and compliance benefits of moving to modern ERP systems-directly advancing our mission to make governments more effective and accountable.
Responsibilities- Conduct discovery sessions with government finance teams to map current accounting practices, including chart of accounts structure, month-end close procedures, fund accounting, internal controls, procurement workflows, and budget cycles.
- Deliver tailored product demonstrations that connect OpenGov's capabilities to real public sector financial challenges-reconciliations, audit readiness, GASB compliance, budget-to-actual reporting, and financial transparency.
- Serve as the primary accounting and finance expert during prospect evaluations, translating customer workflows into recommended system configurations and future-state process models.
- Design and execute proof-of-concept activities that reflect realistic government accounting scenarios and validate OpenGov's fit for the customer's environment.
- Support RFI, RFP, and RFQ development by contributing finance and accounting requirements and functional responses that demonstrate OpenGov's capabilities.
- Provide guidance on GASB compliance, purchasing controls, financial reporting, and process improvement opportunities within OpenGov's platform.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Professional Services to communicate customer feedback and emerging needs related to government accounting workflows.
- Create process documentation, system configuration guides, and best-practice resources that enable consistent evaluation experiences and support implementation handoffs.
Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience in accounting or finance systems).
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, financial systems, ERP implementation, or public sector finance advisory.
- Strong understanding of government accounting principles, fund accounting, GASB standards, budgeting, procurement, and financial reporting requirements.
- Ability to communicate accounting and system concepts clearly to finance teams, IT staff, and executive leadership.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
- Comfortable with cross-functional collaboration and building credibility with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to travel up to 35%.
- Experience working directly with local government finance operations-cities, counties, or public sector finance organizations.
- Background as a CPA, accounting professional, or government auditor.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based ERP or financial management systems in a technical or functional capacity.
- Familiarity with government procurement, budget development, or financial compliance processes.
Compensation: Dallas, TX: $100,000 - $110,000
On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.
The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate's geographical location.
