Full Job Description
Job Description

In Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems, you'll help develop systems that sense, control, exploit and disseminate actionable information to warfighters supporting a variety of missions.
BAE Systems is seeking a proactive Prin. Mechanical Engineer with diverse analytical capabilities and demonstrated technical expertise to support our Dallas engineering team. If selected, you will be part of the Hardware Team supporting development of rugged commercial products along with full military compliant products. We have a small cohesive engineering team with all disciplines that allow the team to move fast while being part of the bigger BAE systems with all available resources that it has to offer.

This individual will provide support to the design, development, integration/test, and production of dynamic electronic military systems. The engineer will work closely with hardware integrated into a variety of complex Signal Intelligence systems. The individual must be a self-starter and is desired to have development experience working with integrated military electronic hardware and related test equipment.

The selected candidate will be expected to execute both individually and in small, yet diverse, team environments through production and sustainment support, and may include other phases of the product life cycle including concept development, detail design, qualification, and manufacturing transition. The engineer will be responsible for solving production issues while developing robust hardware solutions to meet demanding customer requirements and will leverage their mechanical engineering expertise to perform detailed design and analyses. Day to day, activities will include root cause and corrective action activities in a production environment. This will include close interactions with the manufacturing team and suppliers, including generating 3D solid models, drawings, and documentation utilizing GD&T principles; performing tolerance analyses to assure fit & function; performing thermal, structural/stress, and vibration analyses; assessing designs against environmental requirements; as well as generating prototypes in support of test and verification efforts.

With a product focus, the individual will actively partner with other engineering disciplines and operations personnel to develop solutions that adhere to DFM requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during manufacture and test of deliverable hardware. This may include evaluating and troubleshooting mechanical faults and issues, assessing test failures for root cause, identifying disposition/corrective actions, as well as designing test equipment to ensure the performance and integrity of manufactured products.

The successful mechanical engineering candidate will have applicable experience in the following areas:
  • Design, development, and analysis of electromechanical hardware and systems
  • Product/Factory Support of DoD military electronics/avionics equipment
  • State-of-the-art mechanical engineering design and development tools
  • Prototype & test
  • Strong "hands-on" laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes
  • MIL specs & standards, industry standards including ASTM, SAE, DO
  • Engineering documentation and presentations

The ideal candidate will thrive in a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth.

Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship.

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 6+ years (or 4+ years with MS ME) designing, testing, and troubleshooting high-reliability mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles, test methodologies, and the ability to work with advanced test equipment and cutting-edge technology
  • Strong "hands-on" laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes
  • Eligible to obtain a Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Possess an understanding in the application of heat transfer principles, strength of materials, materials selection, design for vibration environments and the ability to apply those principles to unique mechanical design challenges
  • Experience with mechanical engineering tools for design and analysis, including ANSYS Workbench/Mechanical, PTC Creo, MATLAB/Simulink, Siemens NX, ANSYS Icepak
  • Familiarity with design, analysis, and manufacturing standards associated with complex multilayer rigid and rigid-flex CCAs
  • Knowledge of engineering development processes for aero/defense industry, including designing and testing to ASTM, SAE, DO, MIL-STD-810
  • Knowledge of 3D printing capabilities
  • A self-starter with Agile hardware development experience
  • Exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
