Director of Strategic CommunicationsSalary Range: $100-$115K
Position SummaryThe Director of Strategic Communications works with the President & CEO and SVP of Advancement in leading the ongoing development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that amplifies the mission, vision, and impact of RFK Community Alliance (RFKCA). The Director executes communications and marketing strategies in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications Manager and other advancement colleagues, and works in close collaboration with the organization's Executive and Senior leaders, and external stakeholders as needed. The Director of Strategic Communications reports to the SVP of Advancement.
Duties/Responsibilities- Responsible for developing and implementing a robust marketing and communications strategy that builds and maintains a strong and consistent brand that is highly visible. The strategy will be multi-channel and support key organizational goals, including positioning, visibility, fundraising, hiring, and program census.
- Develop, implement, and oversee all marketing and communications projects and ongoing tasks, including producing publications, managing website, social media, marketing emails, advertising, public relations, program and organization collateral, content creation, analytics, and more.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the SVP of Advancement, President & CEO, and other executive leaders on matters of communication (both routine and crisis), messaging, and external engagement.
- Partner with advancement colleagues to strategize, create, and deploy development communications, including but not limited to major gift proposals, direct appeals, digital campaigns, event marketing campaigns, event programs/speeches, etc. Work with contractors as needed for content, design, and dissemination.
- Work with SVP of Advancement to strategize, plan look and feel and program, promote, and create programs and videos for organizational events.
- Provide marketing and communications consultation and/or support to programs in the form of flyer development, website edits, swag recommendations, event branding and materials, etc.
- Drive the creation of compelling content that showcases the organization's excellence and full continuum of care, as well as its impact on individuals, families, and communities, ensuring that storytelling aligns with the organization's values of diversity, belonging, equity, and inclusion.
- Create opportunities for RFKCA and its experts to be showcased in the media and other outlets that lead to visibility.
- Oversee the Marketing and Communications Manager in completing a variety of tasks.
- Manage the marketing and communications budget and approve payments to vendors within the established limit to accounts payable.
- Participate as a member of the Senior Operations team carrying important advancement information to the team and relaying relevant information back to the advancement team.
- Serve as communications advisor to the President and CEO, assist with executive communications and speeches, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications- 5+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields, with demonstrated success developing and executing integrated communications strategies for a complex organization.
- Proven ability to serve as a strategic communications partner to executive leaders, including experience advising a CEO, senior leadership team, or Board on messaging, positioning, and external communications.
- Exceptional storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex programs, services, and organizational impact into compelling narratives that engage donors, community members, employees, and other stakeholders.
- Experience developing communications strategies that support organizational goals, including brand awareness, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, recruitment, and community visibility.
- Demonstrated experience creating donor-focused communications, including major gift materials, campaign messaging, appeals, impact reports, event communications, and stewardship materials.
- Strong background in integrated communications across multiple channels, including digital platforms, websites, social media, email marketing, publications, media relations, and print materials.
- Experience developing and managing a brand strategy, ensuring consistent messaging, voice, and visual identity across internal and external audiences.
- Strong understanding of public relations and media engagement, with the ability to identify opportunities and position organizational leaders and subject matter experts as credible voices in the community.
- Experience managing and mentoring communications or marketing staff, vendors, consultants, and creative partners to achieve high-quality outcomes.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft executive-level communications, speeches, presentations, and organizational messaging.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using analytics and performance metrics to evaluate communications effectiveness and inform strategy.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong relationships with colleagues, leadership, external partners, and community stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with experience developing communications that reflect and advance these values.
- Passion for the mission of RFKCA and the ability to communicate the organization's impact with authenticity and purpose.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, human services, education, or mission-driven organizations.
- Experience supporting fundraising and advancement teams within a nonprofit environment.
- Experience with crisis communications and reputation management.
- Experience with website content management systems, email marketing platforms, social media management tools, and digital analytics platforms.
- Experience with video, multimedia storytelling, or other emerging communications formats.
Pay Range: $100,000 - $115,000 per year
