Full Job Description
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and managing HYLAN's national engineering and preconstruction organization supporting ISP (Inside Plant) data center infrastructure delivery. This role will oversee engineering operations, design standards, technical development, and preconstruction support while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and scalability across all regional engineering efforts.

The Director of Engineering will work closely with operations, project management, estimating, procurement, and executive leadership to support successful project pursuits and operational execution across hyperscale, enterprise, and mission critical data center environments.

Duties and responsibilities
• Lead, mentor, and develop a national team of engineers, BIM personnel, designers, and preconstruction support staff
• Establish and maintain standardized engineering processes, drawing standards, design workflows, and technical documentation procedures
• Oversee engineering and design development for ISP scopes including structured cabling, fiber infrastructure, conveyance systems, rack and stack layouts, and testing/certification requirements
• Support conceptual design development, constructability reviews, and technical scope alignment during preconstruction efforts
• Develop and maintain national engineering standards, details, specifications, and best practices
• Review construction drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
• Coordinate engineering deliverables and support proposal development efforts for strategic pursuits
• Partner with operations and field leadership to validate constructability, installation methodologies, and field execution requirements
• Collaborate with estimating and procurement teams to support accurate scope definition and material alignment
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering workflows, design technology, reporting, and operational handoff processes
• Assist with training and onboarding of engineering personnel across all regions
• Support executive leadership with engineering performance metrics, staffing strategies, and operational planning
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications
• 7+ years of engineering, design, or preconstruction experience within data center, structured cabling, telecommunications, or mission critical infrastructure environments
• 5+ years of experience managing engineering, BIM, or technical design teams
• Strong understanding of ISP infrastructure delivery within hyperscale and enterprise data center environments
• Experience supporting structured cabling, fiber optics, rack and stack, conveyance, pathways, and testing/certification scopes
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
• Experience developing engineering standards, workflows, and technical documentation processes
• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and related engineering/design platforms
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• BICSI RCDD, DCDC, PMP, PE, or related industry certifications preferred

Candidates may reside within the Phoenix, AZ; Dallas, TX; or Sterling, VA markets.

Working conditions
This position may require travel based on project pursuits, regional engineering support, customer meetings, and operational alignment activities. Extended hours may be required during major proposal efforts and project milestones.
